Valuation of my new Trace Elliot GP12 SMX

I took a couple of things as part of a trade this week. A Crate BT220 combo which I'll be listing for sale soon (sounds great, is full of features, but is bloody heavy, and I don't need another combo), and a Trace Elliot GP12 SMX Preamp.

I've been trying the GP12 out, and it's fantastic! Solid state / valve blend, 12 band EQ, twin compressor, and it's LOUD, even when paired with just one Aguilar GS112. Same as the one shown in the pic below: -



Thing is, I really have no idea what it's worth - it doesn't owe me too much from the trade, and I'll probably keep it, but I've seen various for sale posts on different forums, with drastically different asking prices.

Anyone know what it would fetch if I did sell it?

its a great amp. i have the alternative version of this and its bloody loud!!!

trace elliot enthusiasts will go crackers for this sorta thing, looks like its in good nick as well which usually correlates to £££

Cheers - it's amazingly versatile too, I'm discovering.

That pic isn't my actual one - it's a pic I quickly found on the net. Mine is missing the EQ Balance knob - any ideas where to get a spare?

oh right...well if its in GC then yeah its worth a bit more than say..a relic! its still worth a good 200 notes for sure.

is yours just the preamp or the whole amp? what's the diference between SMC and SMX?

SMC was a 7 band, this will be an SMX

Luke, it's a preamp and amp - it has 2 outputs on the back for cabs (plus the usual send/receive effects loop & Tuner output). I had one of these. Got about £450 for it second hand when I sold it...it was almost immaculate even after 10 years of gigging. These retailed for about £1,000 back around 1999/2000 or earlier.

Depending on output power you could be looking at between £250 and £450 I reckon

Cheers for info... The model number (hand written on the back panel) is A250, so I'm guessing that designates that it's the 250 watt output model? Seems incredibly loud, if it's "only" 250 watts, though...

Great sounding amp, and the 2 pre-defined pre-shapes are actually useable.

Going to get it checked out by Peter Allen, and will then decide whether to keep this one or my OTB 500.... either one might end up for sale.

I recently picked up an AH200 GP12. Cracking bit of kit, and seemingly quite versatile so far. Interesting how loud it is actually.

I've got the 250W head.. mine says AH250SMX on the back, bought new in early 90s.
The best amp I've ever had, and while I've been tempted to change I've really had no need to do so.
My vote: KEEP!

Phew for a moment there I was worried there had been a rift in the BC Trade Value Continuum which would have sucked in all previously traded gear.
