Never used springs for a P bass. Rubber foam weatherstrip is what Fender use

I made some from a 50p ikea mousemat & carpet tape for one of my Precisions

Hmm, if springs aren't the answer, what is the best material to put behind the pickups? My fretless build is nearly finished! Literally all that's missing is a good pickup height.

I like using pieces of the grey water pipe insulation. It's cylindrical with a longitudinal split up the side. Hope you can understand what I mean. it's the perfect resistance for a pickup IMO.

I've mentioned this in another thread go to your local hardware store and get two or four small rubbber grommets they are used in plumming don't ask me in what application, and put the screw through them, they are better than springs
