I would love to recount an anecdote about an accident I had doing my zip up too fast and without undue care whilst wearing a pair of ski trousers , but unfortunately I have already been warned by the moderaters about cleaning up my act .

I feel cleansed . I am enjoying my new life , free of sin and wrongfulness . I will not rise to the bait you putting in front of me by talking about knobs . You mean potentiometers . Sometimes they can be difficult to remove during instrument repair procedures and an specialist implement is now available to fascilitate their safe removal . [u]There is absolutely nothing sexual about that[/u] .

I once managed to rip the innards of a pot out because I had superglued the knob to the shaft (I had repaired the knob and not let the glue set for long enough before putting it back on), that wasn't fun. Someone on BassChat recently did the same thing with their Cort T-34. I wondered if he'd accidentally left the grub screw tightened. before I posted to suggest as much I and went to have a look at my Cort T-35 to see if they had grub screws on the knobs. They don't. I gave mine a little tug to see how tight a fit it is and it is very tight. I am now scared witless that I will one day have to remove the knobs from it for some reason.

I'd try the 'shoelace' trick, first. Wrap one under the knob, and it wil ease off with little effort. Give a second wind, if necessary. Make sure, of course, that there's not a grub screw fastening the knob to the shaft..!

What I found was that the zipping up was not the worst part - the extrication was, erm, not to be repeated...

The reason I came across this gadget was out of frustration of not being able to get the knobs off my epiphone thunderbird pro v. I've tried the shoelace thing & they won't budge. Also there isn't room to use spoons with anything underneath them to protect the bare wood. Not sure whether its worth going for the stewmac gadget, but I'll have to get them off somehow sooner or later.

I use the edge of an old t-shirt - slip the edge under the knob then wrap it round, grip the two sides together and pull up. Knob comes off and doesn't fly across the room because it's contained within the t-shirt.
