FEND3R
Hello, gents, My favourite precision has vintage style frets and being equipped for a long time with nickel roundwounds, the frets started showing some wear. Since it has a maple fretborad, I do not want a refret any time soon and I switched to flatwounds, but the sound of flats is not what I prefer on this particular bass (don't get me wrong, my other P has been strung with flats for many years and I simply love that combination). So I am after a roundwound sound and am considering to put some nylon coated strings, which I hope would not wear my frets. My question is whether anyone has observations on whether nylon coated strings wear frets more slowly than nickel roundwounds, and how do they compare to flats. Thank you in advance. Kind regards Tsvetan Edited May 8, 2013 by FEND3R
iiipopes
GHS has a Pressurewound that is a roundwound made from a slightly softer iron alloy. It's a little darker than a conventional roundwound, but not as dark as a flatwound or nylon wound. Edited May 9, 2013 by iiipopes
