Fender USA Custom Shop 1951 Precision, Strictly limited, 50th Anniversary. Mild Relic finish.

This is the most period correct Bass I’ve ever seen come out of the Custom Shop!
The Fender CS are not exactly known for their attention to detail, but on these, in 2001,they’ve spent the time and effort, getting it right, maybe because they apparently only made 15, they could afford the extra detail.Specs/detail;
One piece Ash body, Nocaster® transulescent Blonde, Nitrocellulose, cracked and weather checked, some chips and faded finish.
Body even has the body anomoly hump, as appears on the earliest P's,where they didnt yet have the correct machinery to produce the tight radius rout to the lower horn/heel. Love that attention to detail!
Quartersawn maple neck, Fingerboard Radius 7.25" , wear and lacquer missing from rear.
Warped Bakelite pickguard, this is just stunning, looks original 50’s.
Vintage deep radius headstock scoop, so small walnut cap evident, not seen on any previous reissues.
Reverse Klusons, smaller threads, slot head holding screws, and mounting screws!
Single screw maple lacquered thumbrest.
Chrome covers, with foam mute pad under bridge cover.
PAT.PEND. Bridge with stamped, Serial Number, and phenolic, shaped saddles, lovely.
Slot head screws in all the right places, with 2/3[sup]rd[/sup]’s shaft threaded, vintage correct, perfect.
Flat pole single coil pickup, vintage aged cloth, and even has the earth wire stem, brilliant touch!
Weighs 8lbs with the covers etc.
CS certificate, signed by Mike Eldred, CS envelope with lots of paperwork, cleaning cloth, tags, and Fender embossed CS Black flightcase.
It’s strung with flats, and looks and sounds the business. Closest you'll get without spending £15K!
Here’s the pics;

Gah, what a lovely thing!

77 P-Bass and a hug do it?
Sounds to me like you're underselling your hug a little bit!

Lovely bass there Rich. A real collectors piece!

Truckstop

Was this built as a relic?
Almost certainly. It's consistent with the wear found on similar era basses I've had too from the CS. This was 2 years after all the relic work was done by Vince Cunneto, and they, initially anyway, tried to replicate his very sympathetic relic work at their factory. Not like some of the stuff they do now, which is a little over the top if you ask me. I've only seen two others from this limited series, and they were also relics. Thanks for the interest. Rick
