Where to buy decent velcro for pedalboards?

Velcro branded heavy duty is expensive but blows the socks off that pedalboard tape. Be warned though - do not cover the whole of the bottom of your pedal or it ain't coming up!

The heavy duty marked stuff is so strong we used it to stick a brick to the roof of our studio (it seemed like fun at the time!). It was still there when we moved out 12 months later! :)

I was scoping it out in B&Q the other day, they charge an absolute fortune for the proper Velcro-branded heavy duty stuff. If anyone's got a cheaper source, that'd be ace.

Off to Google it now, if I find anything worthwhile, I'll report back!

Use Pedalboard Tape - it is so much better than velcro.

I had that stuff, when I took my pedals off the board the tape remained stuck together but the glue on the back isn't as strong.

+1 for whatever that velcro for Amazon was, did the trick for me.

I buy it from a local market stall, but its always been expensive. I bought some on eBay but when it arrived it was not Velcro branded. They argued it was, by it wasn't.

The place I buy it from sell it at £6 a meter. There are 5m in the sealed box and they give you 10% off if you buy a box - so I got 5m for for £27. That's ALOT. Unless you are a total pedalboard whore like me, using a sensible amount 5m should last a lifetime.

At first i thought that was really expensive, but it's not as bad as it seems. I paid £14 for 2m of the Velcro branded stuff (Which was sh*te, but it wasn't the heavy duty stuff) so £6pm isn't that bad. I could see 5m lasting me beyond a lifetime, seeing as all i have is a PT Nano.

My best suggestion is just listen to Shep. He uses more of the stuff than Pedaltrain do.

The Velcro brand stuff is great. I've used normal and heavy duty over the years and it's always worked well (actually just ordered some 50mm tape from Amazon thanks to this thread as I'd run out although the 20mm isn't bad from what I remember).

Beware of the cheap stuff though! Once or twice I've bought white velcro tape that was a bit cheap and the adhesive came off the back rendering the tape pointless.

I think this is the one they are referring to, it's the one I've always used and it works great!

I also tried pedalboard tape and didn't like it, fine if you don't need to move your pedals otherwise when you take your pedals off the board the tape remains stuck together and will peel off from your pedals as Plunkrock has mentioned.

That's the stuff.

You'll find a spiel on the box about if it doesn't say Velcro, it isn't Velcro, it's just hook & loop tape.
I had some hook & loop tape. I stapled the loop side to the pedalboard & the hook side then fell off the pedals (couldn't staple it to them :( ).

I've always used this and it's never let me down.

You just need to clean the surface you're sticking it to with alcohol and maybe give it a little roughen up.

Those are both the same. Product. They changed the box last year. I have bought 3 boxes over the last 3 years, the first 2 came in the black and yellow box, the 3rd in the white and red (so assume that's the new design). If you buy less than 5m though you won't get a box.

Make sure you get the self-adhesive version too as they make it as a sew-on too.

As far as I'm aware, the loop side is identical to non-heavy duty Velcro of the same width (50mm), the difference is in the hook side. The heavy duty hook is totally different to regular Velcro hook, like a hard plastic with little razor sharp claws on it. You'll know as soon as you see it if you have the right stuff!

If there's a big interest in the stuff I'll see if the place local to me will do a bulk-buy deal... Maybe I can get the boxes for £25 each or something...

Dan, I've seen your board close up, the reason you don't need heavy duty Velcro is because its big enough to have its own gravitational field. I'm pretty sure it was attracting all nearby pedals into its orbit!

Have to say, i have used that velcro before and i found it fairly poor, would be okay for light little pedals but for heavier pedal i dont think it would hold, depends how much of it you use i guess!

I've always been tempted to get a good chunk of heavy duty hook velcro & stick it on someone's back (without then knowing, of course) & wait until they sit on a loop fabric chair. :yarr:

And watch their face change when they hear that sound

I was thinking about using a bigger bit so they struggle to get out the chair & see the panic on their face. But that would be equally as humorous.
