Chiliwailer Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 So what cool mods, merges or creations have you made??? Due to back issues and a love of Precision basses I got a '96 Sterling and replaced the pickup with a vintage Jason Lollar Precision pick up. Originally it was passive, but later I reconected the preamp which surprisingly still sounds very natural and rootsy, especially with the flatwounds. Quote
Old Horse Murphy Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) Here's my number one gigging bass. It's a US Fender P bass body that was bought by me in 1989. I think it came from an mid-80's US P bass. The neck was lost along the way (it was banana shaped!) so was replaced with a 2008 US Fender neck. The bridge was taken from the same 2008 bass. The pickup is a 62 reissue along with the pickguard which were both fitted years ago. It also has Sims LEDs mounted in the side dot positions and at one stage it had a preamp fitted hence the additional hole in the pickguard. It also has a set of TI flats on it that are at least 2 years old! I know every ding, dent and scuff on it and love it with all my heart. It's the one bass I can hand on heart say will never leave me Edited June 14, 2013 by Old Horse Murphy Quote

DarkHeart Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) all my basses have been put together by me (except for the the 5 string Rockbass) so they all class as Frankenbasses the cherry Jazz now has a black scratchplate and a mm humbucker fitted courtesy of Bassdoc, im thinking of the same combo for the precision as well this was a body bought off here to match a neck bought from China, it plays and sounds very very nice. Chiliwailer Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) Here's two of my old ones, both with new owners but not forgotten... Stingray pickups with two coil split options, Fender 57 Reissue pickup and active passive mode. The other is a 71 Musicmaster with Dimarzio PJ pickups, all new hardware and paint job. Awesome short scale. Edited May 18, 2013 by Chiliwailer Quote

Dave Vader Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I just realised I have no decent photos of my main frankenstein, and main bass. Here's one from Beautiful Days last year, It's an 83 Ibanez Roadstar body, with an SD Ricky replacement pup in the bridge, an old Kay pickup in the neck, and a lovely warmoth ebony fretless jazz neck. bridge was a cheap thing I bought cos it had the right string spacing for the pickups. I started refinishing it when I first put it together 3 or 4 years ago, but had a gig and needed to put it back together quickly as my only other bass at the time had gone awol in another bands van (not permanently, I just left it there til the next gig with that band). I still haven't finished the refin, and it seems to get me more work looking like this, as people remember it (or me, not sure which). Anyhow, picture yeah... All my others are technically frankensteins, but since they look like 2 P-basses and a r********er I won't bother posting them. Quote
ezbass Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I no longer have this, but here's my old double P: additional p/up, drop D, scratch plate, stripped neck. Quote
Bloodaxe Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Not really a Frankenstein, but I modded an SB-1000 into a sort of fretless SB-900: Stripped out the actives, kept the varitone. Quote
