sblueplanet
I've been trying to downsize my rig and recently purchased an Ampeg VR micro rig with the 200w solid-state head and 2x10 cab. Bought it here actually. Anyway, my back has been playing up and I feel like trying to downsize further. I live on the 3rd floor and stairs are not my friend. Been sizing up the idea of a Gallien Krueger MB200 or 500 head paired with a 1x12 cab. There is a compact looking Eden 12" cab rated at 300w. Would it make more sense to play the MB200 through a 4ohm rated version or the 500 through the 8ohm rated version?
Lozz196
I think the 500 into the 8ohm cab would be my preferred option. You`re unlikely to run the amp flat out so having 350 watts into a 300 watt cab shouldn`t be an issue. This way you`ve got more headroom should you need it. rOB
8 ohm cabinet gives you the option of plugging into another cab if need be on occasion. Whereas if you go with a 4ohm cabinet you can't. I'm a very happy Mb500 user with one 8ohm cabinet

sblueplanet
Just been looking at a Hartke HyDrive 1x12 cab, 300w and its switchable between 4 and 8 ohms.

That extra 3dB of volume? Just turn the volume slightly to the right. That's not to say that that the cabs aren't brilliant, they actually could be, but the switchable impedance thing isn't that big of a deal.
