Machines
I know what I'm looking for but not what meets the criteria. I'm after a 5 string, 2 MM style humbuckers, active and if possible coil tapping/switching as per a Stingray, but also under £500. I've ruled out L2500 as too similar to what I have. Help me people ! TRBboy
Save up a little more and buy a Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor! It doesn't get better than that IMHO.
Green Alsatian
I don't know of many sub-£500 active double MM basses. I know of three similar option with twin MM pickups: Rockbass Double Buck - not active, but has series/parallel switching via push/pull pots. http://www.warwickbass.com/en/Warwick--Instruments--Made-in-China--Rockbass--Corvette--Corvette-$$--5-string--Features.html Retrovibe RV5B - difficult to get hold of now also not active or without the series/parallel. If you got one second hand, you could spend the change from your £500 installing a pre-amp. http://www.probass.co.uk/RV5B.html Fernandes Tremor 5X - I don't know if these are still in production but they were around £300, so you could spend the change from your £500 on installing a pre-amp. This demo sounded pretty nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZT58JU4YQE
bagsieblue
Obvious suggestion is a Warwick Double buck...
Prime_BASS
For that budget you void get an original EBMM sub bass and do the mods yoursrlf. As Oli as mentioned above, the Sandberg Ken Taylor used is your best complete package but that will go above your budget I think.
