i am looking to put together a collection of drum loops so i can use them as a base to start songs with, give me a new and easily changeable vibe when im writing.

i know a couple of sites to get free ones from, but do you guys have any you use to find them?

any genre any tempo really, they are just to use as initial ideas to get my creative juices working

I use a site called 'Freesound' for my copyright-free sample needs...

This SoundCloud group also looks useful but I've never used it myself...

Hope that helps mate :)

Great suggestions Paul and Garry - I'll have a look at those myself - my sample library is groaning with stuff at the moment but one of the cool sources for me has been Future Music and Computer Music magazines as each month they come with a DVD with about 8GB of content on - admittedly it tends to be on the electronic side of things but it's worth a look once in a while:

It's also costs money... but hey thought I'd mention it - they often have useful tutorials and other stuff like pesky gear reviews that make you spend more money :)

^ Spot on suggestion that Mike.

I have a stack of Computer Music cover discs at home - you've just reminded me to dig through them again! :) Some great stuff on those and it's all copyright free. Some good VSTs and other 'wares too.

Ooh! Good call for a topic. :)
I have some loops that I got with various DVDs & CDs that I sometimes use, but I usually find it quicker to write a pattern than traipse through countless beats looking for something similar to what I want.

Mike, I mentioned earlier about the chopping and moving around in Stylus RMX.
Small tutorial here - well worth a look.

In fact 4 pages of RMX video tutorials here. RMX is such a powerful tool, and there is dozens of libraries out there.

[/quote]If yu watch out for it in Smiths they certainly used to do a round up DVD every few months that gave you just the samples & loops but not all the other bits of demo software that are on the monthly disks (if that makes any sort of sense!?) IIRC it was a Smiths only special deal

I don't use loops but I've got a few sample libraries that don't seem to be up anymore, all my electronic/glitch drum stuff comes from there, I can host them somewhere if anyone's interested?
