Jimryan Posted May 24, 2013 Share Posted May 24, 2013 Afternoon all, My band have been covering Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" for a while now. All's been going well, the crowds love it, but the band are thinking it sounds off without the little "bubbly" at the very, very beginning. The keys player hasn't been able to figure it out and I thought I'd have a crack at it. So, does anyone know how it's played? [/quote] This might help...although it is a bit of a handfull, best done on keys - two hands needed, unless you sequence it. [/quote] Agreed. (And I'm mostly a 4 string player). Even if you lower the key ,which many singers would need to do, it still has to be in that lower register otherwise it just sounds weeny. stingrayPete1977 Posted May 24, 2013 Share Posted May 24, 2013 The run up through the C# D E octaves sounds tasty imo, glad its not just me, maybe if we had a synth player who was handling the lower register it would be ok without the erb but as we don't it wouldn't be in our set on a standard tuned 4, the version in my link plays across and up and down the neck too so not really an option for a B bass either. Gunsfreddy2003 Posted May 25, 2013 Share Posted May 25, 2013 We have just learnt this tune and our keys player nailed the intro and it sounds great so I would tell him to get his act together rather than try and emulate it on bass! Agree with the comments on using 5 string, we play in the key it was recorded in so you are looking at Eb and on a 4 string it does sound a bit pap. I have come up with a bassline somewhere near to the original but also adding in a bit of my own stuff to make it more our sound. [/quote] I use a 5-string and a Synth voice on the V-Bass. Think the original part was a synth, Greg Phillinganes played it with one hand!
