stephengsr
I'm looking for some help trying to find a replacement cab. I use an old Trace Elliot 2x10 at the minute, its a 200w 8ohm one but the details have worn off the back plate (its handwritten). One of the ones that has the kinda green/black fabric covering. Amp is a rackmount hartke ha3500 and I use a Sansamp BDDI too. The TE is a heavy beast for the size of it. Its relatively small but way too heavy. I'd like something the same size or smaller and way lighter. We're sometimes gigging with everything in a car (guitar amp and cab, bass amp and cab and drums) so the more space I can save the better. Our practice room has an Ampeg SVT810 which sounds amazing but is obviously huge and heavy. So if there was something that was small/lightweight and similar sounding that would be great! bertbass
I've got to say that if you like the sound of the 8 x 10 then it's got to be a Barefaced 69er. Not overly small but incredibly light and the sound is pure 8 x 10. I've been in the position of having to cart the drums around as well as my bass gear and let go of an incredible Fender Bassman and matching cab to accommodate the drums. Regret it to this day. Think of you and not the others.
winterfire666
if you want light and loud, barefaced could be the way to go, i used to have a BIG SWR rig with a Goliath 3 4x10 and a big ben 1x18, i now use a barefaced super 12t, its just as loud (if not louder) is capable of more bottom end but easily fits into the boot of my car and is a one hand lift, they arent the cheapest cabs about but if you need them to be loud, compact and light i personally dont think there is anything better out there at the moment. Lozz196
Barefaced or Schroeder, both are lightweight, both will take all the power you have and be plenty loud/powerful enough. Both expensive, but great quality. Barefaced to me are very neutral/uncoloured in their sound. What you put in comes out. Schroeders have a mid-bias which, when playing solo sounds a bit scratchy/nasally, but this really helps them in the mix. That said, if you`re using a single 210 at present, and having a Hartke amp, checking out the Hartke Hydrive 112s could be worth doing - nice sounding cabs, portable, and having two would mean in the car you could stack them, to cut down on space. [/quote] From my experience, this. the Schroeder 2x12s (1212L) and 2x15s (1515L) are both about 40lbs, and the Barefaced Super12, while a bit bigger, is about the same. The 1x15 Compact's even lighter - IIRC 26lbs or so. My 1515L with my 900w Streamliner can destroy any drummer, and it's a real one-hand lift. I even have guitarists offering to carry it... stephengsr
Cool thanks for the info. I've checked all of those out but they're kinda scary prices. I had no idea it would cost so much to lose some weight (so to speak). What's the Ampeg Portaflex series like? Or the B series? Their 4x10's are a lot more affordable and seem relatively compact. Will I still get a similar sound to the classic series?
Pembo
What about these? Check out Schroeder's site for his new PL (Punchline) series and check out his prices on 'display' cabs under 'STORE'; these are new, and will save you bucks if you buy. W.
