Hello people, im having trouble finding headphones with a good bass response to play Bass through... I have some Beyer Dynamics (not a very expensive pair mind) and they sound crap. I was wondering if this could be the Amp???? its as if they cant handle the basses lows... Could anyone point me in the right direction, to what to look for in a head phone..

Thankyou..

Ps for those using head phones, what amp are you putting them through??

Errrrm minefield......

What amp are you playing thru?

Do you have a practice set up (Boss micro or Tascam)

And you prefer over ear- on ear- or in ear types?

need to know all this stuff first, as well as whats your budget...?

nosey I know, but it makes a HUGE difference!

You'll have fun with those. There's about a half second delay through Bluetooth. Makes things very interesting.

I've just done a google image search. I may well have a headphone fetish. :)

I use Sennheiser HD 485s. In that range, the ones below it do not sound so good on bass, and the ones above are too insensitive for your standard ipod/CD player to drive without struggling.

I have also made a headphone amplifier, which provides the headphone with a lower impedance source, and gives much tighter bass. If that interests you, check out Headwise.com, and the CMoy amplifier.

Hummn know where your coming from.

Behringer....... :) Could be your problem.... I'm not keen on them, DOESNT mean they are no good....! just not as good as other equipment.

I'm using Bose Tri-port in ears which are £70 ish but you get to send them back if you dont like them! I would be very surprised if you dont!

http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-entertain...hones/index.jsp

Try them first (if you can tolerate in ears) as these are superb because they have a port which allows ambient air in.... excellent idea if you want to hear the fone, door bell, burgulars etc.... :huh:

It maybe that your beringer is teh weak link and purely for practice the Tascam BT-MP 1 takes some beating as not only does it have some excelllent features it allows you to jam along to your fave music.

That is the set up I'm using at the minute- Tascam+ Bose

I have also several sets of Shure in-ears and a set of in-ear monitors also a Boss Micro Br, of all of these the above set up is teh quickest and best reproduction.

I use Grado SR60's with a Cafe Walter headphone amp - both fantastic. Not cheap, but not daft either. Also makes a great portable hifi, with an ipod.

Another Grado fan here. Love em. I prefer the SR60s to the more expensive ones I have tried, too.

With bass I find they don't cope so well (tiny hairs trapped between the foam/diaphragm vibrate and make an annoying noise) but I love my Sure E2cs for IEM playing because I know that exactly what I hear through them is what the desk will be hearing when I record. Interestingly they sound way too revealing for listening to MP3s though.

I bought a pair of passive phones that were designed by a drummer, to keep noise OUT and they are terrific. Mine came in a hard carrying case, with plenty of flex and airplane connector adaptor (I do use them for travelling to). I got them via eBay. I've just had a quick search and have found one pair.

I have no connection with that vendor, or the manufacturer. But I do recommend them as a great alternative to pricey hifi phones.

Easily the best I've tried with my amps are my son's Sennheiser HD 25-1's . These are DJ/Pro monitoring cans, not cheap but handle bass and crucially, high volumes ,very well.In the DJ industry and broadcasting these are almost standard issue.Every part is repairable /replaceable.

Buy carefully , there are counterfeit ones on the market.The SP versions are much cheaper but I cannot comment on these , as I've not heard them

Another vote for Grado SR60's.
Use them all the time at home with my PC when i practicing/learning new songs.

I would like to get a pair of sealed cans though so if anyone can recommend something in the £0-£70 ish range that would be good.
Not looking for in ear though.

I use Beyer DT150 for practicing, both through a Phil Jones Bass Buddy and through a Mackie Onyx mixer, and they sound fantastic. They're also closed back so you can use them for live-room cans for recording, and they don't cost a fortune. I bought them in my first year at uni on my music technology and acoustics course, and I still believe they're one of the best pieces of kit I've ever bought - a great investment in my opinion. Be careful though, because some (eg. mine) only come with a cable with a 1/4" jack connector, although i've seen some of the new ones with a 1/8" jack with an adapter, so you can use them with your ipod etc, although the cable is replaceable so you can get whichever cable you need.

Hope this helps.

My set-up runs thus;

Pre-amps >>> 8 track mixer >>> Sennheiser HD215.

The HD215s are a pair of mid-priced, closed-back, circumaural headphones. They are DJ-oriented , and keep a lot of the noise in and out (if that makes sense!)
Bass (the frequency range - not the instrument!) is not difficult to reproduce in headphones, it just lacks the physical effect that we're all used to experiencing from loudspeakers;
There's no Floor shaking or booming room.
As a result, it's often perceived that the system lacks bass. When one listens beyond these traits we usually associate with "good" low frequency reproduction, it is found that headphones (especially the better ones) are refreshingly free of many of the problems that no loudspeaker system can escape in terms of;

Time smear, frequency response, bandwidth, room interaction and sensitivity, to name but a few.
Plus, you can get up and play at 3am and not upset anyone!

On the downside, they can be SO revealing, they'll betray all your bad playing habits and any weaknesses elsewhere in the set-up!
Also, if you use headphones for a long time, it can be disconcerting when you switch back to cabinets!

Finally, watch the volume! Headphone volumes have a tendency to creep up as you practice, so you have to make a concious effort to keep the levels down!!

£37 [s]well[/s] spent,
they are [s]the[/s] Sh*t!
They [s]dont[/s] have a 1 sec delay
They [s]dont [/s]loose signal all the time when its in your pocket walking.
they said 12 hours life on the website, turns out in the manual its only 6! False advertising or what.
