Stance
Check this out It´s for sale near where I live. Never tought there would be such a rare bass around these parts Now, correct me if I´m wrong, but shouldn´t this serial number be from the early 70´s? Stance
He must have taken out the ad. I gave him a call and told him that it were made around 1000 of those basses and not 200 as he was saying in the ad, so probably he is correcting that info. But basically what I wanted to show you all was the serial number - 500159 - 1970´s serial on a 1966 fender bass. right? There´s one on Ebay with a higher seial number too http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Fender-V-Bass-1966-1970-Only-1000-Made-5-String-Bass-/281112768647?pt=Guitar&hash=item4173a07087 Why did this happen on these Bass V basses? ikay
According to this article in Premier Guitar magazine it's just one of those unexplained Fender oddities - http://www.premiergu...rd_Part_II.aspx "This next little bout of weirdness I see all the time: the serial number on the plate of a Bass V is typically in the 600000 range of 1975 or so. No one seems to know why they used this serial number starting in the sixties on the Bass V neck plate." Edited May 28, 2013 by ikay

I once had a 1973 P-bass with a slab board neck They stopped doing that by the mid 60´s... Edited May 28, 2013 by Stance
Rick's Fine '52
I'd be more worried about someone asking 15000E for a 4000E bass!

graham1945
Hi, mine's a 600...... number and it's a 1966. The number in the ad above isn't all that clear (the 6 looks a bit rusted) and should be a 600.....? There are pics of mine somewhere else on here, and if someone offered me 15,000 euros for mine, I'd bite their hand off!!!!! I don't think even Fender know how many they made, because in the end they started cutting up the bodies and knecks for use on other models, ie, they didn't sell. I thought that they were in the catalogue for only three years from 1965. Bought mine in 1972 and still love it and use it regularly, although slightly modded (pickups).
