butlerk02
Hi everyone, I've just pulled the trigger and bought the new A&H QU16 digital desk and plan on doing some basic tracking/recording with my band as well as using it for all of our gigs. In a practice situation i'd like to mic up the kit, amps and vox and give everyone a separate mix through headphones. Has anyone got any recommendations for fairly cheap amp that will allow me to give between 4-8 separate headphone mixes? Cheaper the better please. Cheers Keith
RockfordStone
ive got one of these http://www.studiospares.com/headphone-amps+splitters/art-headamp-4-headphone-amplifier/invt/325010?VBMST=headphone%20amp as it was on offer at the time, works fine for me. i have used one of these http://www.studiospares.com/headphone-amps+splitters/behringer-microamp-ha400/invt/380280?VBMST=headphone%20amp and that was ok. you wouldnt be able to seperate the mix out, youd only be able to manage volume levels
butlerk02
Thanks man, Have been looking at something like this - http://www.gak.co.uk/en/behringer-powerplay-pro-xl-ha-4700/1159?gclid=CNiFiLjdvbcCFTMQtAodhWwAZQ Each input has it's own aux in, so in theory I should be able to do a separate mix on each headphone channel? Do you think the above would work?
RockfordStone
it is feasible if you have the right set up. if you can for example send more than one output from your interface then yes, you would have to set up seperate busses in the software to mute different tracks and route each one to to an outpout then plug into the mix amp. for example, if your interface has 4 outputs Bus 1 - Guitars, Bass, Vocals -> Output 1 -> Headphone Socket 1 Bus 2 - Guitars, Drums, Vocals -> Output 2 -> Headphone Socket 2 Bus 3 - Drums, Bass, Vocals -> Output 3 -> Headphone socket 3 Bus 4 - Drums, Bass, Guitars -> Output 4 -> Headphone Socket 4 this would then give you individual mixes, but as i say it depends on how many outputs you can take from your mixer/interface i hope that makes sense, i know what i am trying to say but im not sure i said it right
butlerk02
Cool, The desk has 12 outputs in total including 3 stereo outputs. Here's the desk I'm getting - http://www.allen-heath.com/uk/products/pages/ProductDetails.aspx?catId=Qu16&productId=Qu16
