This is Mike Arnopol's BigE 4x5 cab, the most hotly praised double bass cab in the US (see here: http://www.talkbass....g-e-4x5-910188/). It employs clever vortex technology whereby the four 5 inch speakers are all pointing inwards so that the sound dispersion means you can hear yourself wherever you stand on stage (within reason) and that the sound (allegedly) gets better the further away you stand. Its immensely uncoloured and has an attack/decay profile that completely suits double bass. Tony Bennett's DB player says its the best cab he's ever played and there are lots of advocates on Talkbass. So why sell? SImple, I play in a loud band with drums, guitar, two vocals and mandolin and the subtleties/nuances this cab brings are completely lost (as I discovered at our gig on Friday; I may as well have been playing through a cheap Hartke stack; or to put it another way, its a bit like doing the school run in a MacLaren F1) - it really needs to be played by someone in a small(er) jazz or folk group where its superior sonic qualities can actually be heard and appreciated.

It took 8 weeks or so to build and be delivered and cost me £720 to import including HMRC duty ($750 cab + $150 shipping plus 20% duty) ... and I have since spent £40 on a custom Roqsolid cover (ie, all-in its cost £760). Its in immaculate condition and only a month or so old. Would like to sell for as close to £700 as possible (I have basically saved you the hassle of importing one and its perfect with cover!) or p/x (cash my way) for a compact DB combo (eg, Phil Jones Flightcase or Super Flightcase)

What's the weight, Clarky? Can't find it on the Spec.

Hi Roger, from Mike's email to me: "The Big E 4x5 is $750 and goes roughly the volume of two of the Crazy 8's. it's 21 x 15 x 11" and weighs about 30#."

As the website's a bit pants, here is the FaceBook page for BigE speakers https://www.facebook.com/BigEloudspeakers

Per my OP, cash sale preferred but would listen to trade offers for DB specific lightweight combos (eg, Phil Jones, but nothing with two 5" speakers only [not loud enough]), or possibly Gallien-Krueger MB112S or 200MB) plus cash my way

Hmmm, after sleeping on this I am not so sure this is a good idea. While its arguably over-spec'd for my band, it does sound very, very nice indeed and is likely to be of more use to me than my Crazy 8 cab (which is more for rehearsals and coffee shop gigs). Withdrawing. Apologies to those who had been considering this

I have and I do apologise if I led on.

I have the attention of a bumblebee and put the FS ad up at a weak moment, in the wake of a very disappointing gig (soundman left without a word, without setting up the PA, and we ended up just boosting volumes to overcome a very noisy, largely drunken audience in a social club). At that gig I really might as well have been playing through a cr@ppy cheap Far Eastern combo, rather than a state-of-the-art piece of engineering like the Arnolopol MA45.

Well, I'm glad you've come to your senses - it all seemed a bit hasty to me. Plus, I really couldn't believe that a cab with this spec couldn't handle a drum kit and a pair of mandos...

My MA45 arrives tomorrow (finally!!) and I'll be giving it a right seeing to over 3 gigs this weekend. I've actually worked out how to get enough poke out of my Omni 10.5 (on a stand and to my side rather than behind me) so I'm expecting great things from Mike's cab.

Hi Dave, it can handle the volume alright. My (short-lived) issue was that it was overly spec'd for my band in that its subtleties and capabilities were not being optimised in the wall of sound we ended up having to make at our last gig!
