I really like the idea of joining in...but I'm a bit rubbish. Might do it anyway.

you should go for it, the worst that could happen is you'll get some constructive criticism, which is also the best that could happen, hang on, I've confused myself now

Really like what I have listened to so far from you guys and girls :) My track is nearly finished, it started as just music, then developed into something else with a few samples and has now turned into a green planet/self empowerment/anti war rebellion rap song? Don't know how I ended up where I have, but it's turning out different and its a serious track :P for once. Will post it once I have the mix right, wish I knew a rapper, instead its ended up with a Wigan version of rap, a kind of pie rap :D

Basschat competition entry, started of as a music only piece and then the picture got me thinking about how stunning the planet is and how our governments abuse it for their own gain and we allow all this to happen in our names. Also the picture represented a spiritual essence that is beyond all religion, but to me is deep within everyone's own nature, no matter what term we use to describe or name it, be it morals, the Source, Soul level consciousness e.t.c..
Recorded using Sonar x2 Producer, Reason synths and a couple of samples of birds song and political ramblings by politicians. It just happens to be an American politician, but it could be any politician from any country, the message would be similar in my view. I suppose its about the power we give away to the few who make us think they control us, instead of the truth which is the just opposite.

Is there any way we could collate all the entries so far at the top of the page like on the voting pages? Just add new ones as they are submitted? I only ask as I've just had a listen to all the pieces submitted thus far and its a bit difficult tracking which track belongs to which person, what with links being requoted etc. This is probably loads of work for someone though I'm guessing?

Had a listen to everything so far and as per last month I'm very impressed with the quality. I'm always in awe of people prepared to put vocals on their compositions, it really takes something to bare your singing voice for the world to hear.

I've enjoyed elements of all the pieces but I especially likes Steve's submission. Not just because I like to get involved in a bit of solo bass myself, but also because I really enjoyed the melodies in the solo. I felt the whole thing held together really well and managed to sound like a tune and not an endless stream of unrelated phrases as a solo sometimes can. I'm a bit of a defender of solo bass compositions and its music like this that makes it a much easier medium to champion.

Wow, thanks for the positive comments Rob, really appreciate it.

I agree about getting the list of entries up as they appear, could we perhaps set up the voting thread early, but with the voting option disable in some way until the appropriate time?

I like the Wigan-rap (as you called it!) in this one. Really suits the piece. I'd say you need to pull forward the vocals and also the politician's speech so they sit more at the forefront of the mix.

I revisited my early effort and, with a bit of tweaking, found some merit in it in that it has the tension that I was trying to create. Added to the fact that I can't see how I can get anything else ready in time, I will post this and be damned. Just don't listen to it in the dark (mmwaaaarhahaha.... :yarr: ).

Re: flaws - the levels aren't high enough and there is a ghost in there near the end that got in when I was adding the wind effect - I couldn't be bothered to re-do

OK so here is my attempt this month. Unfortunately I still haven't got around to buying any proper recording gear so its another video with rather limited video camera internal microphone sound quality...

I may change my strings and re-record this later on in the month but thought I'd better post a version now in case I get drunk and forget.

Final pointless update from me: I've decided to track and mix mine after all, the technical problem appears to not be debilitating as i first thought and it's proving a nice distraction from giant black cloud hanging over my foreseeable future.

Unfortunately I've reached that inevitable point where I've written a pretty good riff, but after listening to it over and over again I'm convinced I've subconsciously stolen it from somewhere. Oh well, hope you all like B minor...

Success B)

This is my attempt , I had a bit of singist help , and I still can't get the mix quite right for the vocal to sit properly , but I think it is worth putting up for an entry . If I get a better vocal blend I will try again , but it is doing my head in so here it is .

Enjoyed that Rob, there was some nice stuff happening with the layers you were building up, I'd be interested to hear where you were taking this if you had some kind of DAW setup so you could include extra song parts

Great way to start the day listening to the new entries :D

Have commented on the songs, but have liked them all...... We've had atmospheric styles, Wigan rap and some blues.... Lovely stuff.... It amazes me the creativity that one photo can evoke :D

CamdenRob - I really love the way you use your looping pedal, great build up on the track..... Although sneaking some wine made me giggle

Yeah I'm not sure where I'm going with these pieces to be honest. I've got some feelers out for a hand percussionist to jam my tracks with, not sure how that would tie in with the looper though as obviously the tempo is dictated by whatever the lowest layer is... worth a try though I think

I have some friends into producing various styles of music, think next month I might record each loop properly as a sample and send it over to them and see what they come up with.

Thanks for taking the time to listen :) Its always nice to get feedback.

Regarding the wine - To be honest I'm surprised evidence of my alcohol enthusiasm hasn't crept into any of my other videos...

Hey Rob

Really nice playing and some very musical ideas - nice work. If I have one small constructive criticism (and I speak from my own experience) the video and music's quality is slightly undermined by the lo-fi location - try a tighter camera angle if you can (my own flat has plenty of baby/kid toys in etc and various bits of clothing lying around so I try and clean up the room before I film anything) - as your playing deserves slicker presentation if possible.

Hope that's cool - keep on recording these ideas it sounds like you're developing some good stuff.

Cheers

Mike
