Dancing in the street. I'd completely forgotten that Van Halen had covered it but then listening to it figured I'd probably just banished that version from my mind like a bad dream ;)

To me that would be do-able, and a fun challenge (although I already know some of them), but a lot depends on how much time and what learning methods you have available to you.

Tell me about it. But if you want to make a decent living out of music you're not always going to play what you want. I've had years of doing that. Started off playing in a 50's 60's Blues Rock band, playing Allman Bros and obscure Beatles songs, to now, getting prepared for the cruises in late summer.

Even one MD told us that throughout the 6-week tour they do not want nothing before 1980. Sucks, but if I'm getting paid to play music, I'll play Robbie Williams and KOL to shitmunchers all day long.

After updating on this thread this morning I've done Get Lucky, Even Flow and Reelin' In The Years. A great way to spend a couple of hours :)

Reviving this thread as I'm working on Paolo Nutinis' new one. Scream (funk my life up) and I utterly adore it! Just the funky fills to go. It helps when you actually like the tune! Unlike blurred lines and happy (sorry, not a pharrell fan) but it's punters stuff so you gotta do what you gotta do! Got whatta man coming up too, that should be fun :)

Uptown Up, Uptown Down, fills, turnarounds, Messin With The Kid, Strange Brew. Blues all the way this week, bit of theory, lots of 12 bar, learning the patterns to go up or down to the IV and V'ths and mixing those fellas up. A year ago I didn't know what a I-IV-V was (although I was playing them without knowing...) so really enjoying more of this to allow a bit of improv to thicken out some songs with.

Cheers,
Rich

We are adding some Zepp to our set, so today I've been having fun with this, trickier than I thought it would be.

Having realised, after watching this http://basschat.co.u...wistle-tekkers/ that I need to re-evaluate how I play it, "Won't Get Fooled Again" has leapt to the top of the 'learn this properly' list.

I have been learning loads of old 20s and 30s jazz standards on a bass tuned DGCF which makes it slightly easier when playing with Bb instruments. Today I do it all again in standard tuning!
