BottomE
Tell me about it. But if you want to make a decent living out of music you're not always going to play what you want. I've had years of doing that. Started off playing in a 50's 60's Blues Rock band, playing Allman Bros and obscure Beatles songs, to now, getting prepared for the cruises in late summer. Even one MD told us that throughout the 6-week tour they do not want nothing before 1980. Sucks, but if I'm getting paid to play music, I'll play Robbie Williams and KOL to shitmunchers all day long.
Absobloodylutely mate. I am going in the reverse direction to you. Started on the paid gigs, went pro and played whatever was put in front of me. Learned a lot (i hope). Now i am playing songs ONLY from before 1980 in one band and another band whose choice of covers just about surface a hit on Google Edited June 23, 2014 by BottomE

JamesBass
Plenty of John Mayer been learnt up today, pretty much the whole of Continuum, Vultures is perhaps one of my favourites as it's so simple yet so groovy! Also HUGE shout for Belief and Bold as Love Hendrix cover! Gotta love Pino's playing!

Graham
Had a fun session, not learning songs for the covers band last night, worked out Bulls On Parade and I'm Housin' by Rage Against The Machine and revisted a couple I used to know but not played in ages - Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke and Beyonce's De Ja Vu
julietgreen
Killing in the name - RATM, hit me with your best shot - pat benatar, Cochise - audioslave... And then had a look at hate to say I told you so - the hives. Definitely a tune to throw in last minute if you need to learn something in 5 seconds! leschirons
That ole devil called love, Alison Moyet version, on guitar. Must admit, I really struggled identifying some of the chords. Most of the transcriptions that I found differ so much so left to my own devices.

LemonCello
Got a tab for Reelin in the years from Songsterr...nothing like the original so paid $1.29 for the original Becker/Fagan part. Also looking at Steve Harley - Make me Smile and Allman Bros - Good Clean Fun. Love the Becker bass lines and enjoying playing Peg, Josie and Deacon Blues for fun

Graham
Magic! - Rude and Bruno Mars - Treasure A couple I'm trying to get the band to do, the singer is keener on Locked Out Of Heaven, but I reckon Treasure is done less and would go down better.
