Interesting bass/guitar shops in York/surrounding/Yorkshire working upto the North East...

Hi all

I am soon to pop to York for a few days, and I'll have a hire car, so as well as getting a few days break from work, I can also pop to any close music shops.

I know the majority of bass specialists are down South, but is there anything near York/Yorkshire area/between York and Newcastle?

I know all the stores in Newcastle...just wondered if there is anything I've missed in the surrounding North East?

For some reason Harrogate rings a bell... I'm fairly sure there is/was a specialist high-end bass specialist shop in that area that was run by someone who was also a member on here?

But I may have dreamt all that

Bass Gear think they moved South though.

Manchester bass lounge on the way up or back, plus, have a look on Bumtree, there is a slew of adverts for Wetherby, gotta be worth a phone call.

Think the Wetherby seller is Nicks guitars http://server11.sitewizard.co.uk/sites/nicksguitars/Fender_Basses.htm
He often has a lot of nice stuff, although believe you have to make an appointment to view.
Failing that, can't think of much else really.

Nah there's nothing of interest in terms of bass gear here in York.

Is Music Ground in Leeds still open? Either way don't go there, their prices are ridiculous and half the gear is stolen.

Spectre Sound in Bingley died quite a few years ago and Bass Gear is down in Tywford near Reading now.

There's a place (MOR Music) on Fossgate near The Hairy Fig. Last time I was in there wasn't much that caught my eye.

Yes, I was in there last week. Very underwhelming. Some nice guitars, but the only vaguely interesting bass was a big Gretsch semi-acoustic thing. Not very impressive

They're nice people who run MOR but they never have any nice basses in. They get the odd part-exer in or something they're selling on commission but it's rare.

Both Steve James in Middlesbrough and Rockbox in Northallerton are excellent.
