huwgarms
hi guys, seriousely contemplating ordering a marbass cab this week, either the 2x10 traveller or the 1x15, now there are two versions of the 2x10 one is 4 ohm one is 8 ohm and they are £100 different in price, 1) for three weeks im still using an ashdown 300 mag head for gigging which cab can i use with this amp 2) next month i will buy a markbass 111 500w head, which cab will allow the full 500w with this amp please? 3) if the 4 ohm cab turns out to be the one that gives me the ffull 500w with the markbass head will that cab work short term with the ashdown? bit confused on the whole ohm thing haha
chris_b
Get 8 ohm cabs. If you want more you can add another cab, which will sound better and louder than just 1.
warwickhunt
If you get a 4 ohm cab you can't use a second cab with either amp. A pair of 8 ohm cabs would suit most people far better; you could still use a single 8 ohm cab with either head and get a respectable output from the amp(s). Do not worry about your single 8 ohm cab being rated @ 300w and the amp 500w... it won't make a heap of beans difference (just use common sense and your ears). huwgarms
so.. lol if i get the 8 ohm cab with the 8 ohm markbass 3 amp i wont get the full 500 watt unless i use another 8 ohm cab? or am i nuts haha the amp markbass 3 is rated at 500w at 4 ohm and a markbass 4 ohm cab should mean 500watts right? reason is im looking to down size my kit as im using an ashdown 4x10 at the min with a 300 watt head (or 500 depending which head i use) so was looking to use a small (size) head and single cab for most gigs and any gig that would require more volume than that id go via the pa anyway? ps thanks for the answers so far ;-)
skidder652003
so the markbass 4 ohm cab will give you the full 500watts but if you ever in the future decide you need another cab, I would go for the 8 ohm cab. Although it will give you about 300 watts, the difference in actual volume won't be massive, but i have a hunch that 2 x 8 ohm cabs will give you a better sound than 1 x 4 ohm cab. skidder652003
PS, as you said, if you're going to DI to the PA for louder gigs (like I do) then as long as your backline cab gives you the monitoring you need to hear yourself on stage then the 8 ohm cab possibly gives you more future options. tonyquipment
go for the 8ohms, you wont need that much power, if you did, just use the DI
chris_b
The volume difference between 300 watts and 500 watts through a 210 cab will be small. The volume difference between 1 210 cab and 2 210 cabs will be large. The bonus is that the tone will be greatly improved by using more speakers Anything like a 410 or larger you might as well go 4 ohm, for cabs smaller than a 410 I'd always go 8 ohm and use 1 or 2 cabs depending on the gig. bonzodog
Don't assume more watts equals louder volume. It doesn't. Like has already been said the difference between 300 and 500w is nowhere near as much as you would expect. Sound is basically moving air and the more cabs you have moving more air will have the better effect.

[/quote] Plus 1! I use an 8ohms Aguilar GS112 for most gigs with my LMIII. Puts out 300w and its more than loud enough with occasional DI help. I only ever wheel out a second cab if I need the extra volume (ie outside gigs etc).
xgsjx
I've got a Markbass 2x10 combo. It's the same as having a LMII & an 8Ω 2x10 cab. It's been plenty loud enough for everything I've needed thus far.
