Somehow (via a variety of trades and swaps) I've managed to end up with a pair of very lovely but surprisingly different feeling and sounding Ibanez Blazer basses

pics to avoid accusations of 'it never happend' ;)

The '80 is fretted (as most blazers were) and has a really rather punchy tone even with the flats on, I'd prefer it to any p-bass I've ever tried without question!

The '81 is a fretless, a factory fretless, I don't think many were made (so this would be a rarity maybe?), the tone is very sweet, super vintage p with a lovely gentle mwah/swell if you linger on a note much like any fretless p.

Both are really solidly made and while not especially light, dont' seem all 'that' heavy to me either.

Very pleased with both, now just need to persuade wifey that they 'do different jobs' so I can keep them

Hi Bud,
Gotta agree about the 80 !!
I've had a few basses come and go over the last few years and compared top them all the only one that's had it beat is my Warwick Thumb.
They really are amazing for the price they fetch.

You have hit the Mother-load, there!

The later Blazer is a Cracker - the 1980 one, is a "A Sleeper!"

These "Made for one year" basses are WAY better than many, at ten time the cost.

I've got two of them.

. . . . and yes, you do need two! :)

Beautiful .... slightly jealous here.

It's just possible that I may have to sell one or both to finance an incoming ACG but I'll be holding off as long as possible...

I dwelt too long thinking about that fretless blazer, by the time I'd made up my mind it had gone!
Please pm me if you ever want to sell it? ;-)
Cheers,
Norm
