Jonny Walker
IS IT YOU ??? This is just out of interest as i know some of you have some very nice customs... To get the ball rolling; My ESP was £1400 but i had 20 L.E.D.s fitted by Sims costing £500, So if bought new would probably cost around £1900 (The most expensive bass i own) Cheers, Jonny. P.S. I mean the face value that you paid... (Thanks Kiwi) Edited June 4, 2008 by Jonny Walker
jakenewmanbass
I have quite a valuable electric but it pales in comparison to the cost of fine double basses, A good orchestral bass starts at around 10 grand.
Kiwi
In terms of what people paid for it, or likely market valuation?
Buzz
Er, RRP value or current value? I only ask because on current value some people will have very early jazzes or rare coloured jazzes (and other instruments naturally) which are currently worth lots of wonga donga, and are only increasing, but didn't cost that much when they were first bought (even taking into account inflation). GreeneKing
I suspect that my Avatar bass, the Chris Squire Ric that now has the correct case is valued at £2.2k+ and much the same for my new C64S 4001. But it's immaterial really, if you pardon the pun Peter
The Funk
My Warwick Infinity SN5 cost me £1400 which I thought was a huge amount to spend on a bass.

Dood
I have no idea how much mine would have cost, if I hadn't been Jon Shuker's rent boy for 3 years.
woodster
Are we talking ACTUAL value or how much Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue thinks they cost....?
OutToPlayJazz
Hmmm... Collectively I have £4800 worth of Status basses, but that's three instruments. I'm at the £1900 point for one bass. Enough for me!
The Funk
I don't think I could go over around the £1500 mark unless I was actually earning some real money from this music lark.
crez5150
I'm sure there are some real expensive basses here.... mine's quite mad at £2800 for my Status Black beauty..... I'd never go to that extreme again though....
doctor_of_the_bass
My most expensive bass WAS Mark King's red Jaydee Classic - cost me £6000. Had to sell it when I turned pro My most expensive purchase that still remains in the collection was my US made Spector NS-2 which was purchased secondhand for £1900. I bought my Chris Squire 4001CS (#475) at a very good price and as already noted, it must be worth over £2K nowadays. Other `valuable' basses amongst the 52 include: 4 Pangborns 4 Status basses, including two Series 2000s, an early Series II and a 5 string Series I 2 Jaydees, one being a full on custom Classic 2 Alembics 3 Vigiers Steinberger Xl-2 - ex JJ Burnel Again, the price of an instrument is a very subjective matter, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it! doctor_of_the_bass
Ah! Forgot about those. Cost me £400. There was a set on EvilBay last week - not sure if they sold or not. I've just bought an Oberheim Matrix module - closest thing I've found in a midiable synth to the Taurus sound - hook my Roland pedals up and it does the job fairly well. ped
I think the list price on my Series 2 Vigier used to be around 2.5K, and now it has a Vbass pickup (£~80), Marleaux leccy (£~150) but has ben graced by my fair hands (£priceless) ;0) Obviously I paid nowhere near that. The Alembic Elan 6 string I used to own (As did Alemboid before me and Kiwi after) ran up a list price of $10,000 when ran through the quote machine @ Alembic. The neck had I think 7 strips of purpleheart or ebony rather than the maximun of five on the price machine so probably even more than that. Silly stuff! bass_ferret
Who cares! I spent loads on my GB's and I am happy. Whats to say somebody wont spend a fraction of that on VM's or SX's and be just as happy.
ped
Nothing at all, I don't think the thread is saying otherwise. One of my fave bases ever was a Squier Affinity series Precision, it was full of beans.
Jonny Walker
I'm not saying it makes a difference how happy it makes you, just interested in the list prices lol
Mikey D
Didn't somebody on here have a very nice fodera!? Like an AJ presentation model...that has to be the most expensive rrp.
Kiwi
Well I haven't a clue what some of my instruments are 'worth', however potentially some of them could sell for an awful lot more than I paid for them because they aren't made any more and very few were made anyway. The most I've ever paid for an instrument was my Ken Smith BSR6GN but my Alembic *might* be worth an awful lot more to a collector. Its a lot clearer with new basses like Foderas. Some of them retail for £6k easily. Birdy's '65 Jazz was up for sale at the Gallery for £6.5k.
Buzz
Pendantic, but the OP's finally made it clear that it's list prices, not percieved worth, that should be used for the bassis (Sorry ) of this thread.
Dr.Dave
My 73P - if I put the original parts back on would be worth...............about 15 years banged up when I stabbed to death whoever stole it with a breadknife. That makes it the most valuable bass so far I think.
niceguyhomer
I met a BCer when making a purchase and he had about 15 basses on the wall and it was all quality stuff including vintage Fenders, Sei etc etc. He had a rare Warwick reputed to be worth about £8,000.
