Baxter
would it not be more fun to see who regularly gigs with the cheapest piece of crap there is.....
M@23
Well if you've bought it at any time in the last eight years it could be the same one....
I lol'd. Quality thread resurrection. I wasn't about for the first round so have enjoyed reading through it all actually.
M@23
Seeing as becoming a bass player/musician ruined my life as i should have done Sciences at Uni instead of music and gotten a proper jobs. I'd say my first bass, an Encore P Bass copy, is the most expensive!
Yep, same! Should have done medicine... Who am I kidding, they wouldn't have taken me. Kiwi
£6000 for my Alembic but it only takes a custom colour preCBS Jazz with matching headstock (or a Fodera AJ Presentation @ £14,000) to knock that out of the ball park. Alan Fourstrings
I would be nervous of taking that Buzzard out to a gig, for the fear of taking someones eye out! http://www.thewho.ne...s/bass8602.html
OK I spent some money on this bass, but I didn't buy it because of Entwistle, but because it was a real masterpiece built by Rob Green; this complex form out of one mould was a real challenge, and I'm still waiting for someone else to build a bass like this with carbon fiber! This one was the prototype, no serial number, no roman inlays, slightly different electronics, played and tested by John Entwistle. But I bought this Buzzard to play it live, and I take it to gigs when the stage is large enough, you're right, I don't want to hurt anybody . The sound of a Status Buzzard 1 is ... well something completely different from any other bass, wood or carbon made. It's not a studio bass, it's the most terrifying bass for live gigs and played VERY LOUD! Edited July 19, 2016 by Alan Fourstrings
azfatboy
What a fun thread. Thanks everyone for sharing. I'm brand new to the game and my Schecter Blackjack ATX C-4 isn't even in the same stratosphere, but I sure do love it!
stingrayPete1977
I imagine a decent DB will be more expensive than anything other than a collector's item BG. I play cello and a basic Chinese cello is £1,500. New UK luthier made starts at around £8k. 'Cheap' German/Italian/French/English from around early C20th start at about £5k, anything 'interesting' starts at about £8k+. Even a decent C19th English instrument will be £20k+. DBs are probaly similar, or more...
The cost of my small repair even if it comes in within the quote would be enough to buy a giggable bass, crazy expensive hobby, I'm going to look at the basses in the shop when I collect mine, the cheapest one in there would be similar in vost to a newish used family car! I've owned a few Warwick LTD buzzards and even managed a Status B2 which was awesome. I've never had the financial clout to buy a B1 though. You must be very proud.....I hope the stars align and I can buy one some day. It's stunning mate!! Pics of some of my past basses, my Black Warwick LTD is missing though. hairychris
About 500 quid for my EBMM. I did sell a mildly abused custom-built guitar for north of £7k last year, though, and still own another by the same builder.
12stringbassist
Warwick Streamer CT and Custom Shop walnut Thumb NT both cost me a few p short of £2k each. Would I spend that much on a bass now? No.
I can relate to that, I had a bolt-on Warwick Buzzard and at most of the places we play, it took up over 50% of the stage. It was, of course, considerably cheaper than a Status Buzzard... thebrig
In real tearms, it was probably my first bass which was a Burns Sonic which cost the most, I was about 15 and I had to beg my older sister who was earning about £3 a week at the time to lend me the £15 it cost me, and then I had to pay her back so much a week, big money in those days, but now, I have about a dozen basses to choose from which I just take for granted, ranging from £200 to £2,500, I'm not rich, but! I LOVED THAT FIRST BASS!
JapanAxe
Never got this "ex famous name guitar" nonsense. There's a shop in Chelsea that advertises ordinary instruments that are supposed to have been owned by stars for silly prices. They're still in business, so I assume some fool must buy them.Crazy.
If that's the shop I think you mean, their prices tend to be, er... 'aspirational'!
Dan Dare
Japan Axe. Have no doubt you're right. I emailed them once, asking if they would be interested in selling my Satellite P Bass that had been owned by Gary Glitter. To their credit, they sent an amusing reply. Rick's Fine '52
My near mint custom colour stack knob is probably my most expensive bass, the '66 Slab would be the hardest to replace though, and the blonde blackguard makes me smile the widest when I open the original gig bag. Love them all, as all my instruments, equally, for varying reasons. Don't ask me what I'd keep if I could only have one!
BassTractor
My bass was expensive. It cost me my marriage.
Dood
It's not the most expensive, but given an opportunity to show some beautiful bass porn, I'm there. ShukerGuitars.co.uk - all custom. It's made of unobtanium-kryptonite and was assembled by Shuker using nothing but darkest of dark arts, over seen by the mighty Oracle Roob. NancyJohnson
My Lull was £3.2k (probably more now considering post-Brexit exchange rates)...I have a Hamer for which I was offered £3.5k from a guy in the US. Despite these ridiculous valuations, there's got to be owners here with gear way over this. US Spectors, Ritters.
