WalMan Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Just got an email from Strings Direct - see HERE Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Ah balls, just put the last of my sets on a bass that I decided I didn't like that much. Quote
LiamPodmore Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 This is going to put it at about £20 for guitar strings, £40 for 4 string sets and £50 for 5 string sets. I just started using them last month and i don't know whether it's worth carrying on using them now. I might grab a 5 string set before the end of the month because they'll last years with the amount i use it. Liam Quote
HotelEcho Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 30-40%??? What the hell, are they starting making them out of Neodymium or something? Quote
Kev Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Wow. What with more and more coated string alternatives being released all the time, what a way to shoot yourself in the foot. Unless everyone is about to do this? Quote
White Cloud Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Oh well, back to Rotosound Swingbass for this poor player Quote
Jellyfish Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 (edited)
Oh well, back to Rotosound Swingbass for this poor player
Or Rotosound Nexus. EDIT: Also, does anyone know if this is just Strings Direct? I assume it will be other outlets too. Edited June 10, 2013 by Jellyfish Quote
skej21 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 For that price, they better be made from adamantium! Quote
WalMan Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 I still have a couple of sets in stock, and they do last a long time. I did try a different coated brand a couple of years back but they weren't a patch on the Elixirs. IIRC the price is possibly gettting back towards where they started years back. I still love'em and think they have the edge for me once you take longevity into account. A set that lasts getting on for twice as long come out the same as two sets of another brand if you look at it that way Quote
Jellyfish Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Here's a reason not to use them too, at least. http://btpub.boyd-printing.com/display_article.php?id=1115676 Quote

Chances of the coating surviving a trip through the bridge and going over the saddles is slim. They work fine, I use Elixirs with my stupid amounts of gain, and loads of top (bunch of the reason I use elixirs is they reduce string squeak as your fingertips rub them) with no hum issues. Have tried the other coated strings but they didn't do the lasting. Quote
