doctor_of_the_bass Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Heheh I might buy this so I can say my bass has the most strings on it: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/15-STRING-BASS-PERCU...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote

Kev Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 what a disgusting looking instrument anythin over 7 strings is just daft for a bass, just isnt needed imo at all, sound samples that iv heard from such instruments just dont sound anythin like 'bass' to me Quote
ahpook Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 i'm with mbk on this...it's a fine exercise in 'how many strings can i get on one instrument' but a total waste of wood imho Quote
MB1 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 MB1. SAD! Really.....Waste of a good tree!.....Great for pub gigs! Quote
ped Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Looks quite good fun to me!! Might as well go the whole hog! Quote
bass_ferret Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Waste of wood and strings. I've never got this ERB lark - get a stick! Quote
ped Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I definitely wouldn't dare to try playing it in public (props to those who do and can) but I would really like to have a play with one. Why not? It doesn't hurt anyone (I don't think??) and that alone is better than doing other stuff like the hoovering - or ironing, before Ste_m3 gets at me again! ped Quote
Hamster Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 If it came with a book of chord fingerings I might be interested Quote
doctor_of_the_bass Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 I'm currently in talks with my local plastic surgeon - we are going to graft on a couple more arms with extended fingers - then I can have some serious fun with it! I had to laugh when I saw it - Anyone remember that guy with the headless Schack 10 string, featured in Bassist mag many years ago!? Whew! N Quote
Bassassin Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Here's where that object of delight probably came from: http://stores.ebay.com/tropicalmoonmusic Home to its hillbilly brothers & sisters, a variety of implausible, improbable & almost certainly downright unplayable inbred mutations. There's probably a left-handed, triple-neck version of the same thing in there somewhere. Jon. Quote
SJA Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 yep, it's a Tennessee bass. check out this review of the 10-string version- http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...tring+Bass/10/1 ".......this is the biggest turd I've ever laid my hands on...." spinynorman Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 There was a music shop owner on one of the early morning "news" programmes on TV a few weeks ago with a six neck guitar that I think came from the same source. He claimed he'd sold it to an act where six people where going to play it at once. My favourites are the ones where they stick two unrelated necks together. Quote

bnt Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008 Just one look at that bridge has me hurling. A touchstyle instrument needs individually-adjustable-everything to work effectively. Someone should tell those Tennessee jokers that sticking "Professional" on something's name does not actually make it professional quality. Quote
allighatt0r Posted June 6, 2008 Posted June 6, 2008
It will require an unorthodox playing technique
It will require a short sharp journey to a skip. It's ridiculous, I can sort of see the point of the Siamese necks, at least they look cool, would be a great talking point hanging off your wall, but this 15 string is stupid. The idea was probably nicked off the guy that made one on Youtube and get 5 colours of poo flamed out of him At least it seems like they were sensible enough to put in two truss-rods, although 3 wouldn't have been overkill... I heard a long while ago the string tension on a 4 string is something stupid like 70 pounds... If you listen carefully, you can hear this thing groaning in agony. It's even got P-bass styling! Quote

And the siamese-neck thing is a rip-off of this: http://www.microphoneheaven.com/guitarbass/ How we LOL'd when that first appeared. Seems they didn't quite get the joke down in Buttf***, Tennessee... J. Quote
Happy Jack Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 If you tune all five to an open G, then play one Townsend sweep with a BIG plectrum, you could do the Back To The Future thang! Quote

SJA Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 there's one of those 5-necks in the window of Macari's, Charing cross road. actually- they've gone and got a 6-neck one now!
