tommorichards
I'm building a bass at the moment, and ive done a bit of routing where i needent have. So im wondering if anyone out there has a big ol pile of dust from sanding some light coloured wood? The bass is ash, so anything in that colour region would be awesome. About a cupful would be idea, as it would be stored for later use. But anything round a handful would be well appreciated. Ive had a look around ebay for this sanding dust and come up short, and ive had a go at wood filler, but its not that great. Cheers Chaps. Dingus
If no one has any to offer you , haveyou thought of getting a cheap offcut of wood the right colour and making the neccesarry dust yourself ?
TRBboy
Maybe post a pic of said balls up and see if anyone's got any other ideas? If its large enough to require that amount of sawdust I would probably try getting an offcut of ash and crafting a piece the right size and shape. Always looks better if it's do-able
xilddx
I could make you some out of John Hall's head if you want? But it won't be fine. Edited June 12, 2013 by xilddx
tommorichards
I was basically routing around a pickup hole to make room for a sunken pickup cover to lie flat with the surface. But its quite rough. About 5mm all around and about 3mm deep. I was planning on making a larger pickguard to completely cover it anyway, but just so when i took it off, it would look alright. KiOgon
Pet shops sell bags of it - don't they?
tommorichards
that stuff is too coarse for my use. Im after the stuff left over from when sanding. @dingus. i could, but it would take too long, and i dont really want to as it would turn me into a sandstorm. Last time that happened, well, you've seen spiderman......
mushers
could probably empty the bag on the back of the chop saw for ya will mostly be mdf dust tho

Roland Rock
I harvested some for you at the workshop today. My current project is unsteamed beech, so I have some very pale dust, I'd say not far off ash dust. I have a small Tupperware tub of it ready to send if you PM me your address. Grangur
If Roland Rock's kind donation isn't right, you could also try WS Jenkins in London - www.wsjenkins.co.uk They supply wood varnish and fillers to the furniture french polisher market. Another possible source is http://www.morrells.co.uk/ Good luck. tommorichards
Its alright chaps. The almighty roland rock has sent me a nice little tupperware tub of the stuff. It should do nicely. Cheers everyone!
Roland Rock
Glad you received it, and glad it's suitable. FYI I packed it really tightly, compressing it with a big mallet. You should find that there's about two mugs' worth of normal dust in there. Hope the repair goes well.
Count Bassy
I know you're sorted now, but if you built the bass you must have offcuts of the original blank, and some sandpaper, hanging around?
