Flea. -given the choice I'd probably put him down for most of my top ten, but as that'd be a little unfair here's some more;

Geddy Lee

Marcus Miller

Pino Palladino

Mark King

Steve Harris

Stuart Zender

Bootsy Collins

Tony Levin

Guy Pratt(check out his OC-2 based work on Madonna's Like a Prayer ...nuff said! B))

Aye, that'll do me! :D

Paul Simonon
J-P Jones
Peter Hook (!!)

Bert Ruiter
Chris Squire
Ray Shulman
Jaco Pastorius
Glenn Cornick
John Glascock
JJ Burnel

Looking back thru my list, the common theme seems to be that most have a very recognisible and distinctive sound. Pretty varied bunch though.

Derek Forbes
Chris Squire
John Paul Jones
Paul McCartney
Holger Czukay
Bernard Edwards
Mike Inez
All the many bass players who don't stand out but are an integral part of what makes the track/song special...

Ok, here's mine!:

Mike Mills (R.E.M.)
Kim Deal (Pixies)
Bruce Foxton (The Jam)
Greg Norton (Husker Du)
Andy Rourke (The Smiths)
Nate Watts (Stevie Wonder)
Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters)
Jimi Goodwin (Doves)
Jenny Lee Lindberg (Warpaint)
Mani (The Stone Roses)

I realise that this will probably get flak for having too much of a Manc/Indie rock bent, but this list has been compiled based on the bands I like & who have inspired me/who I've pinched ideas off! There's no point mentioning Jaco Pastorious(That might be spelt wrong. Sorry!) or Victor Wooten when I don't have their records/CDs/downloads!
