nuno1959
Hi Guys here i am again, pestering everyone w/ questions that probably got answered a million times - my apologies if that's the case ! but....i couldn't find much about it here so, here it goes : this monday my Hartke LH1000 bass head arrives, it's a 2U high head & although most of the time it will be at home sitting quietly on top of my cab or an adjoining table, fact is it WILL go out & have a ''good time'' every so often.. so i want to buy a rack for it, a plastic one will be enough since no one is going to be tossing it around, i will doing any moving, gently, lovingly, carefully - damn, i just realised this almost sounded like a soundtrack for a soft porn.... LOL... anyway, i'm considering getting something like a Gator or Rhino, SKB, whatever, whatever but my problem is i'm NOT too comfortable with the idea of getting a smaller 2U rack case for it - somehow a 3U or even a 4U makes more sense to me as in - extra space for air to ''wick away'' heat from it, etc ? even add a fan or two ? am i over-thinking it & a plain jane 2U rack will be just fine ? oh, by the way, i live in the algarve ( south of Portugal.. ) were temperatures in summer easily climb up to 42, 45 degrees Centigrade ( 115 Fahrenheit ?.. ) for 2, 3 weeks every summer & most of the remaining 4 summer months are steadily around the 32 to 37 degrees Centigrade mark ( 90 to 98 F ?.. ) the rest of the year being quite mild Edited June 14, 2013 by nuno1959
icastle
If the amp has ventilation slots on the top or bottom then having a somewhat larger case makes perfect sense. If it hasn't, then having that extra space will make no difference to it. As for fitting extra fans, it kinda depends on the case you decide on. If the case has a removable back, then there's no need - just try and ensure you select a case that isn't too deep.
Ian Savage
You need at least a 5U. So that you can fit one of these as well. http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/11-231_CANFORD-RACKWINE-Winerack-rack-mount-3U-black#.UbmoKy82JRk.facebook
nuno1959
leave it to Basschat to get almost instant replies to one's plights !! thanks guys ;-) this particular amp has an air inlet in its fascia + a fan in it's rear panel & Mr. Ian Savage - don't be cheeky : i already ordered the 25U, refrigerated rack for those !! what do you think ? i wouldn't be caught dead w/ one of those dinky 1U things on the road man, i've got standards....LOL... so 2U it is then.... cheers guys
HotelEcho
I used to keep my Gallien Krueger 700RB in a 2u SKB case, there was plenty of swing space around the amp for ventilation - and the GK vented out of the top. I imagine yours would be fine.
GregBass
I use a Peavey Tour 700 in a Warwick 2U rack and have never had a problem, so you should be fine with something similar.
