horrorshowbass Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Hi guys, so like the title says, anyone read any good bass/music related biographies lately? I personally loved the "Jaco" book by Bill Milkowski and Joel Mc Iver's book "To Live is to die", the story of the late, great Cliff Burton. Ozzys book is amazing too(at least one laugh out loud every page) as is the "Fornication" book on the Chili Peppers. Anyone else got any suggestions? Cheers Michael Quote
BigRedX Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Not exactly a biography but four of the best bassist interviews you'll probably ever read - In Cold Sweat by Thomas Wictor. I just started reading it and it's bloody fabulous so far, each chapter has an interlude by Scott Thunes, and boy, are they interesting to read! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ghosts-Ballyhoo-Memoirs-Failed-Journalist/dp/0764343386/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371491387&sr=8-1&keywords=ghosts+and+ballyhoo Quote
darkandrew Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I recently read Nile Rodgers' autobiography, an interesting read and quite moving in alot of places - especially the bit on Bernard Edwards' death. Quote

Didn't realise it was out yet, it hardly seems any time since the thread on TB which started it all, began. Quote

NJE Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I love a good musician biography, I cant think of many bass player ones but I have read and enjoyed the following: Broken Music - Sting Bit of a Blur - Alex James Its so easy - Duff McKagan Also not bass player ones that are pretty good: Eric Clapton Ronnie Wood (pretty funny) Keith Richards Anthony Kiedis Quote

steve-bbb Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 this .... is a very interesting story but the writing style is about as exciting as the instructions on a pack of prescription medication so maybe try this one instead... i liked this one too ... Quote

borisbrain Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 The Big Wheel is bassman Bruce Thomas' collection of anecdotes from his time with Elvis Costello & The Attractions. Legend has it that it was this book that got him fired from the band, but by his own admission this was a legend which he himself conjured up in order to stoke up sales. There's nothing particularly bad said about EC, though the anecdotes are sometimes a little on the dour side. Others are quite hilarious. Certainly worth a read. IIRC, a copy of TBW changes hands quite frequently in the Recycling section of the BC marketplace. BB Quote

Ian Savage Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I've just finished Joey Kramer's autobiography 'Hit Hard', thought it was very good. Quote
