Astronomically priced vintage Fender on Ebay

Jacked from a thread in the 'wanted' section, thought i'd let you guys take a look at this and offer your thoughts:

8 and a half grand seems incredibly pricey, especially given that it looks like it sold not too long ago from Andy Baxter's site for over 2 grand cheaper:

as a little addition i did a little search through the basschat archives and found this old thread, and it seems that its this bass:

I think the £8,500 New Kings Road are asking is steep, but Fiesta Red is a rare custom colour - and one of the more desirable ones. I think Andy Baxters price was arguably a bit on the low side.

Ultimately, I guess it depends on what a collector will pay!

Hmmm the OP in the original thread says there's no pickguard and yet now it has the 'Incredibly rare' Fiesta red/totoiseshell combination. That's a bit naughty.

What do you think is a reasonable price, and if I offered you one to buy right now at that price could you afford it?
