iconic
I do like a busy JT bassline. Heard this on the radio of all things..took a while to track down, I think it was a B side to an early one, great bassline and quite interesting playing over an Am....seems to know his way around a fretboard! bonzodog
As a young kid, It was JT that first got me interested in bass as I just love not only the bass lines themselves but also the sound he produced. Although I quickly diverted to rock music I will always remain a fan of his ability.

Dingus
John Taylor was ( and still is ) great . I can't think of any bass player in a current chart act who plays such up- front and creative basslines as John did with Duran Duran back in the day . In the 1980's we were spoiled with great bass playing on pop records and we didn't even know it . Everyone thought it would go on like that forever . How wrong we were . Club Tropicana has nice Bass. Shame about the awful 30 second intro of crickets doing what crickets do. Garry

Mudpup
Have a look on YouTube for "Rio Isolated Bass" Its absolutely bonkers and you realise how much gets buried in the final mix
achknalligewelt
Have a look on YouTube for "Rio Isolated Bass" Its absolutely bonkers and you realise how much gets buried in the final mix
You can hear him get tired - at the start, it's all clipped ghost notes and precision. By 5 minutes later, he's fluffing bits, letting things ring, and the sharp 16th's have fallen into messy 8's. It's superb to listen to a player show both computer-like accuracy and human failings. Damonjames
My sister in law is a massive DD fan, and a JT fan as well. Having experienced the 80's as a child, I had pRetty much condemned most of the pop music from this era as absolute garbage. After a few drinks one night we hit into a "discussion" about the merit of DD and johns playing ability, we me concluding that she had no clue what she was talking about, however I did promise to have a listen to rio. I was blown away when I heard it, and as others have said, there are other great songs, I also like notorious. I will learn to Play them one day!!
