Lozz196
I think compressors are a bit misleading really. It`s possible to not like the sound of the thinner strings, finding that they aren`t as loud in the mix, so bump up the lows, and then find that now the thicker strings are way too boomy. Using a compressor - for me anyway - means that with the sound I had originally, the thinner strings are now loud enough, so I don`t have to bump up lows to get them audible. So then the thicker strings aren`t boomy. So in a way I`m using a compressor to reduce boom. I`m sure I haven`t explained this with the correct terms, but I get what I want this way. I`m sure there are other ways - definitely don`t cut mids for example, but I don`t like a middy sound.
