I recently picked this up in a trade with Stingraypete1977, who incidentally is one of the nicest, most genuine people I've had the pleasure of meeting on the Forum.

Unfortunately, it's not quite right for me so I'm moving it on.

This is a 1982 pre-Ernie Ball Stingray in remarkable condition considering it's 31 years old. It has clearly been cherished over that time and comes with a Musicman Case of the same era (a few tears in the tolex but in perfect structural condition).

The bass is 100% original and the original straplocks have been fitted back on to it. It also weighs in at 9lbs, so is a gorgeous weight too. The only thing to mention is that the foam mutes have been replaced as there was one missing originally (the 3 remaining ones are included in the sale though!)

The only real marks of note that I can see are a scratch on the scratchplate and a chip on the back of the neck which doesn't affect playability in any way. The neck profile is a fair bit thinner than a modern Stingray, so is super comfortable and playable.

Unfortunately Pete isn't in a position to take this back due to an ongoing hand injury, so I'm offering it up on the forum.

I would rather this bass was picked up or would be willing to meet half-way as I'd really not want to post such a beautiful instrument.

I am looking for £1,625 for this. I've uploaded as many pics as I can, but more are available.

Just had this set up decently (a really nice medium action with a new set of TI flats by Gavin at Andertons.

I'd be interested in an unlined Fretless Stingray 4 up to £800 plus cash my way or a new series US Fender Jazz Fretless up to £650 in value plus cash my way.

I'd also consider a new series Fender American Jazz (rosewood board) up to £700, or a 62 Reissue Jazz up to £850 with the rest in cash way.

I'd possibly consider trades with a decent lightweight 70's Fender Jazz too or a Status S2 :)

Thanks for looking :)

[sup]I've fancied this for a long time but didn't think Pete would ever sell. And now you put this up when I have 47p, 3 buttons and a dead squirrel to me name :-P[/sup]

Lovely looking thing!

What sort of thing do you have in mind for a trade?
I have a 5 string GMR

Not looking for trades thanks, apart from the fretless Ray plus cash I mentioned :)

Is this a good time to mention that I'd consider a p/x for a Fretless Ray to £850?

No it's a very bad time you naughty person you. If I had a spare £850 you would have a particularly nice, very near mint 2001 Black F/L Ray with a very figured neck coming your way.

This bass is the nuts guys, the quality of the neck and body workmanship is superb, very light bass but with a massive Bernard Edwards sound! I reluctantly let this go as I'm 99% certain I will be sticking with five strings due to a damaged wrist, I was happy to use both before unless I knew the gig required a 5 string.

It did come from the States and I was the first UK owner afaik, the best 4 string bass I have ever played :)

Can't believe this is still here Nick........unfortunately my Status is a streamline not an S2.

Thanks Mart :)

I've had lots of trade offers but nothing that I really want at the moment. A few people are selling bits too and interested in buying it.

Hope you're well :)

Not too bad this end Nick.

I'm trying to avoid selling stuff mate, the market's so flat. Last few deals I've done on here have been trades. Even though the levy to sell on BC is small it's sufficient to make me think twice before sticking stuff up for sale!
