danthevan
Need to upgrade my rig as the cab is getting a bit old and tired, and the amp isn't the best (although it has never let me down). Currently have an old Torque 200 amp head, and an aligator 410 cab which has had the speakers changed at some point. Been having a few 'farty' noises occasionally coming from the rig lately so think its time to change...... Sod all free cash, but have plenty of reward points at andertons ( http://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-amplifiers/cid557/guitar-amplifiers.asp#1372449475304page-1) and credit rating is ok atm! Basic 5 piece rock band, pubs / clubs, nothing big really. What do I need for some nice low end bowel movement inducing grunt?
Pembo
Personally, i'd be looking to get a new amp head aswell, and would struggle to replace both amp and cab in the £500 new area. If you were planning on doing that, then this looks about the best option http://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-combos/pid18527/cid687/tc-electronic-bg500-210-bass-guitar-amp-combo.asp If you only want to replace the cab, then personally i'd go for http://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-cabs/pid15534/cid686/tc-electronic-rebel-stack-rs212-2x12-bass-cab.asp Obviously you'd have much better options going the 2nd hand route... danthevan
Is TC gear good stuff then? Was looking at the Ashdown stuff, http://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-amp-heads/pid27145/cid685/ashdown-mag300-head-plus-mag210-and-mag115-cabs.asp or they have a mag600 head and mag410 too. Pembo
Horses for courses, really. You'd have to play them to see if you like the tone. Personally, i'd go for TC stuff over Ashdown. Unless looking at the top end ABM Ashdown stuff, then the MAG stuff can sound a bit loose/wooly. The TC stuff, certainly in that price bracket, is tighter sounding. it's got a little of it's own colour, as opposed to Markbass stuff, but it's still controllable. Depends what style of music you play aswell. if you are happy with a basic thumpy tone sitting in the mix, then a MAG115 would be ok. However, if you want a tighter, dynamic tone pushing through, then definately the TC stuff.
BassTractor
What Pembo says. The TC made me sell my MAG (though with 410) for roughly those reasons, and I think Pembo describes it very well, the essence for me being the pushing through bit. Also, I experience the BG as more flexible, as the MAG needs more dialing before anything changes. Not that I think the MAG is bad or anything, and I'd happily own it or gig with it. best, bert
Lozz196
TC gear is good, very versatile. If I were a session musician, I`d probably have a TC setup due to being able to coax many different sounds from it. Plus, in this months Bass Guitar Magazine TC are doing a promotion on their BH range - buy a BH half-stack, get another cab free. So the BH500 and either a 410, 212 or 210, get another free.
