Kiwi Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Ellie Goulding's Halcyon Days - I really don't like the marketing hype around her but musically she just keeps getting better and better. Quote
superclive Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Aluna George, forgotten what the album's called but it's awesome pop. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 My personal discovery has been Spanish rockabilly label El Toro records with new releases by bands like The Star Shooters Quote
Roland Rock Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 "Big Inner" by Matthew E White". I can't remember how long it is since I've been so overwhelmed by an album - it's beautiful. The overriding feel for me is Deep South gospel and soul, but other descriptions reference country and psychedelica too. The vocals are soft and comforting, the arrangements are quirky and imaginative, the production sublime. Every one of the seven magnificent songs has a really good 'second movement' or extended outro. Could just be me though; I made a copy for Mrs RR and she said she got bored :-D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n8YgcBw09c&feature=plpp http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE657ED0F1BBCC627 Quote
seashell Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Chatma by Tamikrest Beautiful Arabic/rock cross over. Very haunting and powerful. Vocals are superb and there is some very nice bass playing frrom CheickTiglia. It's ages since I've bought a new album, but heard this on 6 music and just had to get it. It's available on vinyl too, although I had to get the CD version as my hi-fi is currently out of action. Quote
paul_5 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Probably "Filthy Empire" by Heaven's Basement. Not really heard much else to be honest. Quote
Lord Sausage Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) It's this, which came out last year and was my album of last year. It's still got that first listening buzz to me. I freakin love it! Edited September 30, 2013 by Lord Sausage Quote

DorsetBlue Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Fortress by Alter Bridge has just managed to equal Opposites by Biffy Clyro (if not quite topple it) for me. Quote
miles'tone Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Praxis Makes Perfect by Neon Neon. I went to see the show earlier this summer. It was a gig/360 degree theatrical show that the whole crowd was in/history and politics lesson..and freedom fighting rock n roll! Best and most original show I've ever seen The album is great. Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013
As I'm going to see DP next month I thought I'd better give Now What another go yesterday. Played it a few times back to back when it first came out but then neglected it. You're right it's abetter album than I first thought, some of the tracks have a similar feel to the material from Abandon from the mid-90's which tends to get overlooked.
Good to know I'm not the only person who enjoyed Abandon! I may have to give this new one a try. Now then...don't know if I've actually bought an album that was released this year! I can recommend a brand new band though - they formed this year and have only released a few tracks but they're definitely worth hearing. Hailing from deepest, darkest Surrey, I give you Stitch: http://stitchband.bandcamp.com/ Quote
kristo Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 The Temperance Movement album is definitely my album of 2013 so far. Went to see them Friday night and can confirm they are amazing live too. Quote
