Well the title says it all really sorry if this has been done before I did search for a thread on this but could not find one so I started a new one.I do most of my Bass shopping online mainly for the reason that there is not really any good music shops near where I live and I cant drive at the moment so online shopping is great for me as I can have the stuff delivered the only real drawback is you cant really try stuff, So I just wondered if you guys shopped online for Bass stuff or use your local music shops? when buying large items such as basses and amps I always look in the for sale area here as a starting point but for smaller items such as strings, straps etc etc I tend to use ebay Amazon and strings direct I have just started using Thomann also for a few purchases and find them pretty good. looking forward to your answers on this one guys :)

I can sense a theme going on there :-)

I'd say most of my last purchases have also been on BC.

Cheers

Basses direct from the luthiers that made them or from eBay. Amps and cabs here. Everything else from various on-line sources I haven't bought anything musical from a retailer for almost 10 years. Even my taste in strings and picks is too esoteric for most shops.

Mostly ebay if I'm honest. My last two purchases were my doublebass from Gedo in Germany and my Yamaha Bex 4 from here.
I was feeling a little guilty about not supporting my local shops etc so tried to source some flats for the Bex 4 in my two most local shops, I wanted either flatwound or nylon tapewound but was told that nobody uses flats anymore in the first shop, I said I fancied trying nylon tapewounds on the Bex 4 to see how it sounded to which he replied it would sound "old fashioned and dull".
I tried the second shop which was a more traditional acoustic instrument shop, asked if they sold nylons, he said they only sold acoustic bass strings, silly me had forgotten about the laws of string fitment and only bronze strings can go on acoustics, back to the internet then.

Basses and guitars: local shop (8), online shop I can visit (4), online shop I can't visit (1), eBay (1), local person (1)
Pedals/rack effects: local shop (6), online person (1)
Amps/cabs/combos: local shop (8), online shop I can't visit (2)

Summed up:
22 from local shops
9 from different online resources
1 from a local person

Names that I (soon will have) bought from and that you'd recognise: Barefaced, Bass Direct, Myrtle, GAK, Gear4Music, Thomann.

best,
bert

Mostly ebay, but I recently bought a bass from Wunjo while I was in London. Actually, that is untrue, I played it while I was in London but couldn't make up my mind, I then got them to send it to me (which they did free).

Oh, and I bought a copy of a bass by that well known manufacturer that has been mentioned quite a lot here, which I picked up at cashconverters :D

First port of call is the Gallery and BassGear.
Then after that GAK, Andertons or Mansons possibly.
Then it is an internet search...

Strings direct from Newtone and I'll always ask my local music store if they can do something.

If I can't make one, or can't be bothered to then it's basschat. I buy strings from my local (10 minute walk) music shop just because he's local (also a nice guy) and it's handy to have a music shop on my doorstep.

My first port of call Is the basschat marketplace, but sometimes I get a little impatient and then go to evilbay.
