charic
Well Skol (bear with me Mike )did it again last week but this time not alone... no it wasn't a draw. It was actually a collaboration piece with urb and two other artists too! Last month also saw the successful integration of a few more members and over 70 votes this time around! Well here we have the July picture chosen by urb, quite an interesting one this time around open to plenty of interpretation Usual waffle : A picture will be posted by the previous months winner to act as inspiration for that months piece. The piece should be no more than 5 minutes long and should be composed and recorded in the same month as the piece in question. To be clear, any instruments / sounds can be used although copyright should be followed for obvious reasons. Also Basschat T&C's should be followed within the actual recording so : 6. Skol303
Has anyone actually read the blurb?
Of course! Charic tweaks it each time. Last month it entitled him to a 50% share of all our annual salaries. The time before that it included a clause that read something like "all your bass are belong to Rick". Seems fairly straightforward this time, so nothing to worry about Anyway, here's hoping for another good one this month. I'm doing a collaboration this time with Rob Slusar (aka RockfordStone), so I'm looking forward to rocking out with something a bit different. Well, different for me! Following last month, I'm also working behind the scenes with Mike (urb) on some ideas for new material, which we'll be producing outside of the Basschat monthly challenges - more on that as it develops... As someone who's accustomed to working solo, it's good to be teaming up with other human beans! Who knows, I might yet climb down from Hermit Mountain, shave my beard and take a bath... Nah, maybe not Edited July 2, 2013 by Skol303

CamdenRob
I came up with the bare bones of something for this last night... I was fairly pleased with it however I've just realized that it has the EXACT same rhythm as one of my other pieces. Totally different tonality but an identical plucking pattern. I shall have to go back to the drawing board and be a little more original... Rob

I have a few ideas, but I don't know how I will be able to get them done technically at the moment, if I can't it'll be back to the drawing board. Dad3353
Good afternoon, all... I've started a 'work in progress', and have a fairly fleshed-out skeleton already. Once finished (are these things ever really 'finished'..? ), what do I do with it (polite replies only, please; nothing biologically impossible...)..? I can put it into a Google parallel dimension, or send it to my SoundCloud account, or anything else if required, but then what..? How does it get to be diffused at end of month..? Sorry to be such an idjit; I'm an IT Manager. This explains everything.
MiltyG565
I've had a fairly conceptual idea for this composition, given the technologicalness of a place like New York.

Just upload your track to SoundCloud and post the link to it in this thread. Charic then compiles everyone's links when the voting thread gets launched in the last week of the month. What is that gallop thing he does... triplets? I must experiment more with rhythm, seem to spend all my time concentrating on making sure melody, bassline and chords all work together in the same key then I just plonk it in 4/4. Must explore a bit with this months attempt I think.
lurksalot
well , Lurksalittle's input this month, is that we need it pop styleeeee So pop it is, I have sooooo much too learn, having listened to some 'pop' it is all in the production , at least the lyrics won't take much doing , but sorting the feel of the current pop pumping genre and just as awkward ......... a singist This month will take some oil to be burning at midnight ................ Skol303
Pop is a tricky one Lurks. As a genre it gets bashed constantly by us, ahem, serious musos But it's got super-high production values and writing a catchy hook is something of Holy Grail. I personally love pop music. It's my guilty pleasure! If you want some good reference material check out Britney around her 'Toxic' period (that sentence sounds so massively wrong…). Seriously. Purely in production terms, it's top notch. So that's my advice mate. Listen to Britney! Bet that's never been said to you before, eh. Edit: here you go... What happened to you, man!? I agree with you. I've often said the best thing about pop is the level of production it has. I'm a complete novice, and even I noticed that, and quite some time ago too. Personally, I struggle to produce something that even I would be happy with I've written one kind of chorusey hook, but I need to match it with a verse. But that's all waffle really, because it has naff all to do with this comp
bobbass4k
Does anyone know a VST sampler that's as good as Impulse in Ableton? I use Impulse for all my glirchy drum stuff and it's ace, but I do all my other stuff in Reaper so it would be nice to not work on the glitchy drum stuff in isolation but all the sampler plug-ins i've seen aren't as good as Impulse, I need the level of control over each sample you get with Impulse.
