JTUK
Just wondering if anyone had any educated guesses for what power generator draw for a typical 5kw P.A plus decent lights. The stage is 40x20ft. The P.A is 5kw plus 2k monitoring. The lights will be a gantry with projector and vertical hazers to flood and wash the stage size. I haven't got the final detail of the light spec atm... so I suppose a ball park figure for the power draw. The P.A crew say 40kva should be 'ample' but the organisers had kittens when I passed this detail on.. and said they have never needed more than 15kva. Not my remit, I know, but it is in our interests to help out if we can. Post your thoughts and experiences, please... Thanx
Count Bassy
Add it up: PA + Foldback = 7Kw, + a kilowatt or so for back line. A 15 Kw Generator therefore leaves 7Kw for lighting. If LED lighting that's enormous, if traditional less enormous, but still a lot. Of course the PA crew are correct. 40Kw would be ample, but probably way over the top. It all hinges on the lighting, so you need details of that.
