yorks5stringer
Had my Microphone bracket break for the second time on my top end Hercules Stand at the weekend. Dropped Hercules ( Strings and Things) an email on Sunday, had a helpful reply Monday with a request for my address and a replacement with me on Tuesday morning at 10 30 am! Can't do better than that?
JTUK
Met a rep of theirs yesterday...top bloke, so this type of service doesn't surprise me.

Telebass
Another happy Hercules user here too. They've never failed to support me if I have any problems. I use mic and instrument stands, and they're pretty damn bombproof.
toneknob
Any recommendations for a Hercules stand that packs up really small and my Jazz bass won't fall off?
dudewheresmybass
Strings and things customer service is fantastic. When they were the mxr distributors I had many occasions to contact them and they were very quick to sort them out and replaced items 'super quick'

Musicman20
I use two of the normal grab style Hercules guitar/bass stands, and I eventually bought a mic stand. They are all fantastic. I've never seen a mic stand quite like the Hercules ones; I've used to the cheap tat most vocalists turn up with, (with gaffa tape all over). Could be simplified by just using the longer bolt and a spacer instead of the two sets of locking nuts. Edited July 10, 2013 by obbm
Happy Jack
Good idea Dave, but a simpler solution would be to just buy a Precision in the first place.

LiamPodmore
I use a grab stand like those, not Hercules ones as i'm cheap, but it's the exact same design as the first one, and i've only ever had 2 little problems with them. 1 of the arms on one broke after it got hit with a headboard and fell over onto a wooden floor with a bass in, and my 5 string Jazz doesn't fit as it's got a tree trunk neck. Other than that they've been as good as anything else IMO. Liam
Fair enough that sorts out the problem a slightly asymmetric body like a Jazz, but it doesn't IMO solve the problem with the back support being lower than the centre of gravity on a bass (and it's only just about in the right place on a guitar) which means that the putting a bass on it causes it to tilt back at an alarming angle. I'm quite happy to use something like that at home, but on stage unless the performers are very sedate (i.e. sitting down) I would never risk it. Stands used for instruments on stage need to hold them secure with no danger of being knocked over. IMO that means supports at the base and half-way up the neck and fairly weighty to lower the overall centre of gravity. Ideally one of those multi-instrument racks, or a good quality adjustable stand like this one from Quiklok. neepheid
I always use those mini Hercules stands, even with my RD Artist - simultaneously my most expensive and strangely shaped bass. I only leave it on the stand if I'm first on (and soundchecked last), so before we play there should be no-one (save for the sound engineer) on the stage. Otherwise it's in the bag. I think would be quite rude of me to leave my bass on the stage whilst others are performing considering the size of some of the stages I play on so I don't and therefore the antics of others don't really factor in the equation. Other than that the stand is used simply as a place to put the bass while setting up/breaking down that is preferable to laying it on the floor or leaning it against an amp. It serves this purpose well. Of course if you're big enough to be playing big enough places that you can leave your stuff out then I guess something more solid would be a good idea. I'm just offering an alternative point of view
BigRedX
For me the point of using instrument stands at gigs is to hold/support the bass(es) I'm not currently playing. If I'm only using one bass then it's either strapped on or in its case and no stand is required. Therefore the stands need to be sturdy enough to support basses on the stage area while there are also performers performing. IMO the mini Hercules stand does not offer sufficient support to a bass guitar in this situation.

I started a thread last year on this issue, but despite various advice, still couldn't find what I was after http://basschat.co.uk/topic/184873-compact-stand-for-offset-bodied-bass/page__p__1865475__hl__hercules%20offset__fromsearch__1#entry1865475 Edited July 10, 2013 by Roland Rock
