Thoughts? I meant "Is this the band with the best punk basslines in the world" as opposed to "Are these specifically the best punk basslines in the world"

The Damned, no contest.

Neat, Neat, Neat for the most recognizable punk bassline evaarr, and Love Song coming a close second:

I'm a big Rancid fan - Old Friend, Timebomb, Black Lung and Axiom all jump to mind, but Babylon's Burning by The Ruts is my favourite punk baseline at the moment

Met the bassist from The Damned. He came into my university to talk about the music union.

Deaf as a post now due to his ears dying on stage but a very nice chap.

Fat Mike/NOFX basslines, anything by Matt Freeman including Op Ivy and Rancid, and the unsung hero, Brian from A Wilhelm Scream:

Live version of The Horse

Skid Rock without video.

A Wilhelm Scream might not SEEM like what a lot of the original punks would deem as punk, but it is. It's punk played with incredibly fast chops and technical ability.

Guess it depends what you term Punk? The Ramones, Clash, Ruts to name a few had some decent basslines

Have to agree with this - most of the nominations so far are not what I'd call 'punk'.

As an example Suicidal Tendancies were formed a good 2 years after the last thrashings of punk had finished. . .

Not really classic punk, and perhaps not even punk by the standards of some, but I always loved the bass to this track (not really a big fan of the band though):

. . Most of The Rezilos, especially 'Top of the pops' . .

Hell yes, I'd forgotten about that one.
A lot of the early punk bands were actually good musicians who'd played in bands for a few years before punk but were there to 'jump on the bandwagon' as it were, all this "they couldn't play" was largely a load of bollocks, in the very early days anyway

In what way did punk music end?
