alstocko
Got myself a P a couple of months ago with a white scratchplate, safe to say that I'm not a huge fan. I'm looking into getting a black pickguard to look like this: http://julieannamos.hubpages.com/hub/Fender-Bass Quite individual me thinks, what are your likes/dislikes when it comes to scratchplate colours? bh2
I'm a fan of tort on burst, the black does look good though.
Geek99
Yes Torn between red tort and black myself. Y
Lozz196
I'm a fan of tort on burst, the black does look good though.
Yep, tort on burst is all-round classic, black on burst is 70s classic.
dannybuoy
Anodized gold (50s classic) is my fave with sunburst: Edited July 11, 2013 by dannybuoy
basshead56
Black if it's a maple board! Tort if it's rosewood! Simples!
xgsjx
I'd break the beige & go for either red, light blue or orange. Not blingy vibrant versions of those colours though.
ead
Black wins my vote.
Geek99
Anyone have a source for plates in authentic red tort ?
Bassman Steve
Howard the Bass Doc has done 3 for me and I posted a pic a while ago which had an original '71 with tort plate next to 2 reissues with tort plates and they were identical. Howard is your man.
bh2
I've seen them at allparts uk... not cheap at around £40. Would like vintage red for my p... the brown is too busy.
Samashton12
Sunburst/White/Maple Does it for me Thanks, Sam
Bassman Steve
[sharedmedia=core:attachments:136965] Here's the picture I mentioned - the 'real' one is on the left. The Bass Doc charges similar (or did) for a custom made scratchplate.
Geek99
ive been having a discussion with him about the economics of his buyig a large sheet of it. And its not really a starter. the story is that I ordered a bass from him with a black plate and he mistakenly sent me a bass with a brownish tort plate- the bass is otherwise as perfect as I could wish. He's a busy man and I did think I could live with brown tort, but I cant. Several people have commented that 3TSB/Maple/Black is authentic so I'll stick with black. I'm going to take the tort plate off and return it in favour of the black plate I originally wanted. (I also only paid for a black plate, tort is more)
cocco
I like tort on sunburst, I have a sunburst P with a mint green plate that I quite like. I'm thinking about getting either a burst or a black one though.
EssentialTension
Tort ought to be brown tort not red tort, IMHO.
thodrik
I must be in the minority who don't like tort. Black or white for me.
