stubass
I'm in uncharted territory here! Started an acousticy type side project and really think that a semi acoustic would give me the sound I'm looking for. I've only ever played a gretsch I borrowed from a friend of a friend. They are a bit pricey for me though, I've got about £300-£400 to play with. Could anyone throw some decent semis to look at in my price range? I play an ibanez sr just now and love the neck, has anyone tried an afb200? Any guidance appreciated!
Woodinblack
Is the sound of a semi acoustic that much different on a bass then? I don't have one / haven't tried one, but I do have a few semi acoustic guitars (one of them very similar to a gretsch really), and honestly if you were listening blind you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them. DOes the bass show more?
stubass
There is a subtle difference. I've just spotted the thread from the other day and someone there spoke highly of the afb. Definitely worth seeing if I can get a try of one.
neepheid
Second hand Epiphone Jack Casady.
canarybass
Plus 1 for the epiphone. I would also have a look at the ibanez semis. Excellent basses for the money. I think it may have been me singing their praises on one of the other threads! Edited July 14, 2013 by canarybass
yorks5stringer
Godin A4's go for around £350-400 s/h and no feedback either!
Very nice basses (I was after an A5 fretless for my last band). They look like a semi acoustic wearing an electro acoustic skin & someone stole the pickups. canarybass
That's a disappointment
To be fair, the neck is subjective, I guess. It was heavily glossed, and didn't feel nice to me at all. But the difference in string volume was very annoying, and whatever I tweaked, I couldn't sort it out.
You could have an original for less http://basschat.co.uk/topic/211980-hofner-5003-1963/ However, I would go for a Kala Ubass.
