essexbasscat
A world without love by Peter and Gordon. Have a listen to the recording and especially the bass. Phil Adams
Didn't paul McC have something to do with that, seeing as Peter was Jane Asher's brother, or has 50 years destroyed my memory?
casapete
Written by Macca, although credited to Lennon& McCartney. Great song! And very interesting recording - was it Paul on bass? Original (short!)demo by Paul here -
essexbasscat
Interesting version there Pete, with the lovely Mary Hopkin at the end of the footage. The bass in the one I posted - I first thought it was a DB as the sound is so open. On reflection though, the intonation is so precise I now wonder if it was a fretted bass. Not likely to be Macca's Hofner, as that's usually a more muffled sound. Any ideas anyone ?
Hobbayne
JPJ was doing a lot of session work about that time. so it could be him.
BetaFunk
JPJ was doing a lot of session work about that time. so it could be him.
Studios were very busy places in the 60s. There were lots of session musicians to choose from. Geoff Love, the arranger would have had his regular musicians and session players so it's probably a case of take your pick. P.S. Jackie DeShannon wrote two songs for Peter & Gordon's 1966 self titled LP and she was going out with one James Page so hey maybe it was JPJ on Bass!
