xilddx
Vai doing Building the Church live. Disregard if you will, the blowy hair and funny faces. Vai and the band are full of immense musicality, musicianship, compositional beauty, and it's executed with great levels of feeling. Above all, for me, he's got fantastic taste in note choice and phrasing. bobbass4k
I can appreciate the technicality, but compositional beauty and feeling? Not for my money I'm afraid, but what's life without disagreement? For me, this is the pinnacle of musicality and compositional beauty in guitar music, and pretty much all music:

With a bit more practice he could be quite good.
Lord Sausage
The guy is an F-ing genius. It always amuses me when people just dismiss him as a shredder etc. Musically it is incredible and it just displays ignorance when dismissed as just technique. Lynottfan
I loved Steve Vai with David Lee Roth, and the passion and warfare thing, just couldn't get into his stuff much further, great player though, not that keen on the whole Ibanez sound though, but thanks for sharing. leroydiamond
I dislike this genre of music pretty intensely. Malmsteen, Satriani and co. never rocked my boat. However Vai blows me away!. Loved him right from his debut solo album. His live shows are a thrill.
Bilbo
Love Vai but I always found Gary Moore an intensely emotional player.
