Cheers Si Ahhh that explains the nosiness, I have to say I have been nothing but impressed with the 2i2. Great piece of kit, and great service from Focusrite. Love the software and vst/AAX deals as well 👍
Thunderpaws
Well, that’s me sort of set up with my first ever home recording studio. I still need a desk to put it on but here’s what I have so far. PC- Dell 16gb ram, quad core i5. Interface- Roland Rubix 24 DAW- Reaper Monitors- Prosonus Eris e4.5 Just starting out and only today worked out that I need different cables for connecting my speakers to my audio interface. I had assumed that normal instrument cables were used! So, waiting on these coming tomorrow. Excellent! 👍 Nice little set up and welcome aboard. Plenty of Reaper users on Basschat, so you should find yourself in good company. Don’t be shy and post your creations once you get started! Many of us here cut our teeth in the monthly composition challenge, which is a great way to get stuck in.

Do you just creahttps://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/331055-october-composition-challenge-get-writing/te any old track and post away? Yes indeed; that's how we all do it..! ... No, seriously (well, almost...)... Each month's winner chooses the picture for the following month. That picture is supposed to be the inspiration for the composition of a piece of music (any instruments, not just bass, or even without bass at all..! No bagpipes, though... ). No longer than five minutes, and must be composed in the current month. Most folks post their compo's to Soundcloud (it's free for such use...). Three weeks later, the list of all entries is posted, and there's a week in which BC members can vote for their favourite tracks (usually three from the list...). The composer gaining the most votes chooses for the following month; rinse and repeat. Any clearer..? Jump on, in; the water's lovely. PS: here's a link to this month's Challenge... Does anyones ears not bleed , does anyone not feel the need to rip there own face off , does anyone not put a foot through the speakers reproducing the sound ..................... of the bagpipes Its a rule made in jest so as not to inflict the sound on any members who happen to listen to the compositions entered. I dont know anyone who likes the sound of satans bag of wind . except oddly, a cousin, who had a piper pipe him and his wife to their wedding reception , I was already at the bar, so I only heard the story, not the noise

There have been exceptions, where both myself and Lenny sneaked 'em into our respective compos. We didn't win, obviously, and anyway, they weren't Scottish bagpipes. We're not completely daft. Mornats
Northumbrian pipes actually sound quite good. Not technically bagpipes but similar enough. I think I'm still banned from using them though.
Dad3353
Well, they are played by inflating a 'bag', and have drones, for skirling, so would count as bagpipes for the purposes of the Challenge. Still, it's the Highland stuff that causes umbrage, mostly. The softer, more lilting notes of other forms are not so hard on the lugs. I'd also put the kibosh on other pipes, of the Brittany biniou and bombarde ilk, as being unfit for human consumption. The penance for transgression of these 'suggestions' have yet to be formalised, as there have, to date, been none daft enough to really risk it, but there is, perhaps, far more menace in the unknown than if penalties were to be clearly stated. I doubt, though, there'd be any repeating of the transgression; it takes quite a while for the lesions to heal.
