Something a little different this month mainly because this is month 12 of the competition!

So for your inspiration this month I give you...

http://youtu.be/bRNqRN5dz-M

A complete compilation of every picture our entrants have composed to each month :D

That'll get your brain boxes working! The music should be synced to the video and should vary from picture to picture :D

Good luck!

Its 12 minutes long O_O - that's going to take a while haha. Is it possible to get hold of the video file so I can load it in to my DAW to make things easier?
Hmm... I don't really want to bulk out my uploads. Maybe try downloading it mate :)

So when the voting comes around everyone has to listen to 20 odd 12 minute pieces of music....

Yup
That's a serious commitment... and sadly one I do not have the free time to make. I'll be sitting this one out.

Good luck one and all :)

To be fair I don't think we'll have as many entrants this month.

I understand it's a higher workload but this is to mark our 12 month and I wanted to push the boundaries a little :)

Twelve minutes is a lot of music - chances are some DAW's will freeze or fall over, depending on your computer spec of course.
In real life scoring, video is cut down into sections/cues of maybe a minute or two, etc.
It would have been better to have made it around six minutes long, say thirty second for each picture.
And somewhere to host and download in Quicktime formate [smaller files].
Just throwing in some ideas (All IMO of course) and thinking of ways to make it easier for folks to get involved.

I have downloaded the original video that was posted up on you tube, and it came in at about 100 meg AVI
So I have converted into a Quicktime .Mov (A lot smaller file) and it works fine.

But whatever is easiest for Charic, because it seems he has put some work into this.

Like the idea Rick!

But I agree with Garry and others that 12 minutes running time is too long... I suggest halving that to make it more accessible for both composers and listeners. Or at least cutting it down to 8 minutes maximum.

A QuickTime version of the video would also be much better suited to using in DAWs (esp. for people unfamiliar with converting video formats). I'm assuming you can enable videos to be downloaded direct from YouTube?

Anyway... It's going to be an interesting month! I can feel some kind of Jive Bunny Megamix in the works ;)

If I was going to write a 12 minute piece of music that went through 12 different 'sections' building to an integrated whole, it wouldn't be this. I couldn't even be arsed to segue one minute sections of the twelve pieces I have already written into one continuous whole. Sorry, guys. It's not going to happen. Count me out.

Hm, I haven't done one of these before so I don't know what the rules/guidelines usually are, but:

Is the idea that the music provides a soundtrack to the video, or that it *could* be associated with the sequence of images? If the latter, then - IF I were doing it, which may be tough during the school holidays - I'd prefer the freedom to sit on each image for a period of my choosing, e.g. the architecture of the composition might demand that Image X is used for twice as long as Image Y, etc. My 2c!

The idea in this case is to match the music to the video. Much as you would be required to for film etc. The composer gets no say in the makeup of the film afterall
