Grangur
Er! The decal said my surname and the name and date of the tour I've been doing this year and next, not Fender. If I made something i'd make sure everyone knew i did it. Believe! I do have an ego! Thanks for the other advice tho!
LOL... WOOPS!!! Great sounding decal. I take it all back and now busy eating humble pie as we speak. The guy i buy the nitro off, Steve Robinson, has a website that shows how to build and spray. He mentions on it how strongly he fells against fakers too. Lord Sausage
Rothko and Frost make custom decals pretty much how you want them for future reference if you wanna get one yourself for future projects.
Lord Sausage
Well the decal finally arrived after a load of bollocks. Had to trim the "custom bass" off as it didn't quite fit. I'm happy with the result though. Just leave it for 24 hrs and then juice it with clear coat tomorrow. HowieBass
Do you have conductive shielding paint handy for the cavities?

Myke
What?
You'll need conductive paint or some copper foil for the control cavity so your pickups won't hum.
Lord Sausage
Do you mean like a copper wire that runs from the jack socket through the body to the bridge? Bear in mind this is my first attempt at any thing like this coming from a starting point of zero knowledge.
JimBobTTD
I use copper tape rather than paint. You can find it as "copper shielding tape" in the musical instruments section on eBay or, for half the price, as "copper slug tape" in the gardening supplies. Get some that has conductive glue on the bottom and you're laughing.
Lord Sausage
Does the wire from the jack thru the body to the bridge do the same thing? Edited December 22, 2013 by Lord Sausage
Nope, that just grounds the bridge. What you want to do - it is by no means obligatory - is to shield the cavity from noise. A load more info can be found at the Guitar Nuts site, here, where they explain it better than I can. Lord Sausage
Thanks mate. So it's not absolutely neccessary?
JimBobTTD
It only takes 30 minutes, costs under a fiver and is well worth doing. The bass will still work and sound good without it. It will work and sound better with it, I feel.

Lord Sausage
Well, whilst wet-sanding the finish to get ready for buffing I've gone through to the clearcoat a small amount on a couple of edges. Gutted! Not sure what to do. May just f*** it off indefinitely. Don;t know if i can be arsed with the expense of doing all the body again. Don't think i have the knowledge or skills to fix it without have to strip it back and do it again. I wanted it ready for the end of Jan for a tour. Don't think i will make this deadline so i have lost a lot of the desire to do it.
Grangur
You don't have to take it all back to the primer, just do the bits needed. Edit; or make it roadworn? Edited December 30, 2013 by Grangur
Lord Sausage
Right, I'm back on it! Today I have started buffing the neck using the first of three compounds from Rothko and Frost. The first one has bought it up shiny and smooth already so can't wait to see how it will end up. Was just going outside to use the second one but it's started pissing it down, so will leave for a bit. The plan was to get it finished today. Can anyone recommend a decent standard polish for when I've finished? (silicone free) Once finished i will move back to the body, I've already re-sanded it using 320. I haven't gone back to the wood. Just roughed it up then I'm gonna do the whole process again. primer, paint, clear gloss. Hopefully i will get it right this time.

Lord Sausage
It's finally painted.....Thank god. Gonna buff it in a few eeks and stick it together. just gonna put a pick up when finished. As i detailed all the earlier stages before i buggered it up at the buffing stage. No point detailing it all again. Cheers
