A "go-to" bass.
A bass with an alternative number of strings.
A fretless bass.
An easy-to-transport bass.
A bass that has sentimental value.

+1 except Id have my YOB bass and an upright instead of 'easy to transport' and 'fretless'.

Mine so far are;

'62 RI Jazz - My 'go to' bass
SR1605 - Alternate number of strings and easy to transport bass
'75 RI Jazz - My Year of Birth bass
Geddy Lee Jazz - My 'sentimental' bass

Just need a nice upright and that'd be my 5 sorted :)

Lakland Bob Glaub
MM Stingray 5
Ibanez SR 5 string of some sort
Fender P Fretless
Framus Blond Upright

would do me nicely, so just another 3 to get then.... :)

I am only going to reply to this thread when Marcus keeps a bass, or does not express an intense desire for a new one, for three months. . .

I don`t think there`s much else from the bass-world I`d either want, or need.

A Dingwall 4 (go-to)
A good P/J (fallback)
A Fenderbird (rawk'n'roll)
A BC Rich 8 (exotica)
A coffee-table luthiery one (Shuker, or Overwater, Sei, etc) just for the look of it.

Although the Dingwall would do just fine on its own.
