Sean
My band currently has no singer so we're writing a set list based around songs that I can sing whilst playing. I'm looking for some suggestions for some covers that have simple bass parts, sound OK with just guitar, bass and drums and that people at a chilled out non-cheesy wedding would enjoy. We've got some Chilis, Tom Petty, Beatles sorted, what else could we do??? Help!
Cat Burrito
I play in a little 3 piece 50s rock 'n' roll band and anything along the Elvis / Buddy Holly / Eddie Cochran vein would probably fit that mould
leschirons
Here's the setlist from my trio from last year. I sang the lot except Pretty vacant, Tush and Tulsa time. They all work for a trio. Obviously it depends on your guitarist to a point and I guess some of it will be unsuitable for a wedding but it all used to go down a storm here. Best of luck. bonzodog
In our 3 piece band me and the guitarist share vocals, so I sing the songs where the bass is either easy, or just has nice fills in between lines. We do a wide range of stuff but current songs I sing and play bass to are - You do something to me - Paul Weller Up the Junction - squeeze Ever fallen in love with someone - Buzzcocks That's entertainment - the Jam If you want to up the tempo a bit more, other ones that go down well that I sing whilst playing bass are, Should I stay or should I go - The Clash She sells sanctuary - The Cult So Lonely - The Police Are you gonna be my girl - Jet
allighatt0r
Sorry, I appreciate most of these are too rocky for weddings! Sit Down - James 2468 Motorway - Tom Robinson Band Rebel Yell - Billy Idol She Sells Santuary - The Cult Learn to Fly - The Foo Fighters My Hero - The Foos Times Like These - The Foos
KevB
I've done lead on a few through the years, in addition to already mentioned if your wedding guests like some Stereophonics then both Dakota and Have A Nice Day are simple for bass/vox combined. Kinks All Day and All of the Night easy too (though I think I sing it a bit more like the Stranglers cover!) and if you want to get more laid back I found that Cat Stevens' Wild World isn't too difficult either, even managed to slip in the guitar fill as the guy i was jamming it with wasn't sure of that bit. Dr Dave from this site fronts a rock/blues trio but i think he's on holiday at the moment, his band will have ahuge list as they have been going a long time. Urban Bassman
Don't Believe A Word by Thin Lizzy or the slower version by Gary Moore are quite easy bass lines and even I manage to sing these (well I use the term "sing" in it's broadest possible tense) and play at the same time. steve-bbb
with weddings it would be expected that there will be all ages groups there so would be good to throw in a decent selction of stuff from 60s 70s 80s (skip the 90s that was mostly pants) and maybe even a big one from the 50s 60s and 80s in particular there are oodles of good tunes and you should be spoilt for choice depending on how well you know th e wedding party would dictate what tunes to suggest - if only acqauintances then a safe selection would be appropriate - if you all know them really well and they have a good sense of humour then you could be a bit more adventurous with the selection
Sean
Lovely job! That gives me loads of ideas. Can't Get Enough by Bad Company is a goer so is Learn to Fly and Ever Fallen in Love - my guitar-playing alter ego sung those in the past
Roger2611
In my world there are no songs that are easy to sing and play bass at the same time, just playing the bass and remembering to breathe is challenging enough at times!
